We're seeking a Senior I&IT Solutions Architect to lead the design and evolution of key applications within a defined program area of the Ontario Public Service. In this role, you'll focus on the systems your branch relies on every day—ensuring they are modern, integrated, secure, and aligned with OPS architecture standards and cluster direction.

You'll partner closely with product teams, developers, and business stakeholders to translate complex requirements into clear, scalable solution designs. Your work will center on understanding current-state applications, shaping their future-state architecture, and guiding modernization and integration decisions that strengthen service delivery. While you won't be hands-on coding, you'll provide authoritative architectural leadership across your application ecosystem, resolving design challenges and ensuring technical consistency.

About the job

As the Senior I&IT Architect, you will:

• provide expertise and leadership in information technology (IT) architecture, enterprise architecture frameworks, strategies and methodologies within a variety of domains such as Business, Technology, Application, and/or Security
• assist and support the planning, design, and implementation of architecture solutions and deliverables for large-scale, complex multi-year I&IT projects and initiatives required to meet the critical business requirements of our ministry client(s)
• define, evaluate and lead the development of value driven architecture policies, standards, guidelines and best practices affecting multi-ministry/cluster initiatives aligned with the Ministry Business/Programs
• provide expertise and leadership in information technology (IT) architecture in a number of the following domains: business, technology, applications, security and/or information and includes enterprise architecture frameworks, strategies, methodologies.
• Collaborate with other OPS IT and external partners in the procurement (i.e., planning, design, delivery and implementation) of architecture solutions for large scale, complex, multi-year I&IT solutions and services required to support Ministry Business/Programs.

What you bring to the team


Technical knowledge

You have:
• expertise in I&IT enterprise architecture (including architecture domains such as business, application, solution, integration, technology, privacy and security), IT strategies, enterprise architecture principles/methodologies and mechanisms/techniques
• experience developing strategic technology plans and roadmaps, including business capability planning
• an understanding of corporate architectural governance review processes, including but not limited to streamlining, simplifying and enabling agile architecture governance approaches
• demonstrated technology skills and hand-on experience across one or more IT architecture domains (business, technology, application, security and Information/data)
• knowledge and hands-on experience of service-oriented architecture, cloud computing technology (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS), GoCloud infrastructure, business analytics/intelligence, portals and mobile services, managed file transfer service, common data services/ETL, virtualization, converged infrastructure, and application development and performance management (i.e. DevOps) and others
• knowledge of business process and data modelling, analysis, re-engineering and transformation
• experience in distributed and GoCloud-based application design/development and understanding of software, hardware, architecture frameworks, and corporate technology and trends (e.g., SOA, IoT, ETL, cloud architectures)
• experience with project management methodologies (e.g., Waterfall, Agile), governance processes (e.g., architecture checkpoints, project gates), and deliverables (e.g., logical/physical design collateral, blueprints)

Research and analytical skills

You can:
• develop architectural solutions to meet complex, multi-year plans, spanning multiple internal/external stakeholders and broadly defined business objectives
• resolve significant integration and technical issues to address multiple systems/applications linkages interdependencies and impacts where requirements are not initially clear
• research and recommend innovative application, data and systems architecture alternatives with integration strategies
• plan and coordinate all phases of complex multi-ministry/cluster architecture, design and implementation for systems supporting both internal/external clients and stakeholders, and be able to translate business vision into a roadmap that leads to successful solution implementation
• create adaptive performance measures to handle new and emerging technologies, unfamiliar or unproven tech, and broadly defined or undefined business and system requirements

Leadership skills

You can:
• guide and train project teams and consultants on design, architecture, and project implementation activities
• lead and help developers see the value of the enterprise architecture and understand how to use technology successfully in driving business results
• provide technical guidance to systems staff, schedule activities, explain procedures, develop learning plans, and monitor progress
• build effective working relationships, gain buy-in for system design and development, and promote design and architecture options to senior management and stakeholders for decision-making
• lead project status meetings and corporate committees to discuss and determine strategies for architecture priorities and change management directions
• lead the assessment, evaluation and adoption of COTS and third-party products and services, integration with solutions and develop materials to obtain approvals; and performs other technical duties (e.g. producing software code, developing proof of concept (POC) solutions)

Consultation, collaboration, communication, and facilitation skills

You can:
• consult with multiple stakeholders and clients to advise on technical issues
• facilitate discussions on both a business and technical level among stakeholders with different interests
• encourage participation in the systems design and implementation process
• negotiate customer service agreements and resource requirements with client senior management and other IT groups to minimize service delivery issues
• provide advice and recommendations to stakeholders, management, and staff regarding most effective design, architecture and system implementation strategies, enabling ministry business/programs to achieve targeted strategies and objectives
• present and advise on IT strategies, solutions, and design architecture to senior management, stakeholders, and clients; lead planning sessions and deliver presentations
• you can provide advice regarding approaches to contentious design architecture and implementation issues
• interview and collaborate with other IT professionals and corporate IT groups to address implementation issues
