Bring your culinary expertise to the Donald Doucet Youth Centre where as a Food Services Officer, you will play a vital role in maintaining the health and well-being of the youth residents by preparing and delivering nutritious meals in a secure environment. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to public service while developing your culinary and organizational skills in a dynamic correctional setting.
Please Note: This temporary position is irregularly scheduled on-call and the hours of work vary from 0-40 hours per week, with no minimum guaranteed number of hours.

About the job
In a large volume facility kitchen, you will:
• Prepare and assemble meals and restricted diets, ensuring proper handling and storage
• Assist in maintaining a daily item inventory of supplies on hand and required for pre-determined menus
• Assist in the receipt and storage of replacement supplies, adhering to standard stock rotation principals
• Maintain proper sanitary conditions in kitchen area
What you bring to the team
Food Services Knowledge and Experience
• You have thorough knowledge of food preparation, storage techniques/procedures and proper kitchen equipment operation
• You have demonstrated experience in institutional cooking methods and procedures, especially in large volume cooking
• You can prepare and assemble a high volume of meals, following menus, portion control and adjusting for special diets
• You have demonstrated ability to understand and follow organizational policies/protocols, health and safety practices and standards in order to maintain safety and security in the kitchen
Other Essential Skills
• You have excellent communication skills including the ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions
• You can supervise and train resident youth helpers professionally
• You can write reports about the work of resident youth helpers
• You can solve problems with kitchen equipment and food service issues efficiently
Physical Work
• You have the ability to work shifts, weekends and holidays and perform physical work
