About the job

As part of the Child and Parent Resource Institute (CPRI) team, your work as a Food Services Helper directly supports children and youth with complex mental health and developmental challenges. You'll help maintain a welcoming environment for children, youth, families, and staff by ensuring their nutritional needs are met. Your tasks will include:

• Assisting in the preparation, service and delivery of meals, snacks, and therapeutic diet items
• Ensuring that residents and staff are provided with safe, nutritious quality meals
• Maintaining clean and sanitary food service areas, equipment, carts, refrigerators, and dishware
• Operating dishwashing machines and manually washing pots and pans
• Disposing of garbage and cleaning garbage receptacles and fridges
• Participating in the continuous quality improvement program

Please note:
• This an irregular on-call position and the hours of work ranges from 0 to 40 per week, based on operational needs.

What you bring to the team


Food Services Knowledge and Experience

• You have experience working within a large food services operation
• You have knowledge of food preparation, service and delivery
• You have experience preparing a variety of diets
• You can maintain kitchen cleanliness as well as various kitchen records and logs
• You have knowledge of food safety practices as well as workplace health and safety regulations
• You have demonstrated ability to comply with organizational policies and procedures

Health and Safety Knowledge

• You understand and apply health and safety standards like WHMIS and the Occupational Health and Safety Act
• You can maintain kitchen cleanliness as well as kitchen records and logs
• You can follow organizational policies and procedures

Other Essential Skills

• You have problem-solving and time management skills
• You communicate well and work effectively in a team environment or independently
• You can follow and carry out specific written and verbal instructions
• You can solve problems with kitchen equipment and food service issues
