About the job
You will:
• Oversee daily delivery of diverse public programs, including a complex living history program.
• Develop and oversee all public and school education programs and events for diverse audiences, including children, educators, community groups, the public with a local, national and international reach.
• Lead and support an inclusive team through technical, administrative and operational direction to staff. Assign work, evaluate performance, identify staff training needs and escalate employee relations matters.
• Control and monitor allocated operation budget for the unit and regularly provide assurance reports on financial activities.
• Assess site policy issues based on research, stakeholder input, business delivery proposals and other factors to identify service gaps and recommend improvements to Commission and program policies, practices, and guidelines, helping streamline processes and strengthen accountability.
• Conduct risk analyses of business proposals, assessing policy and legal impacts, and advising senior management on program changes with appropriate risk and costing strategies.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of performance measurement tools and analyze data to identify trends, issues, and recommend corrective actions.
• Manage politically sensitive and high profile issues and complaints through the identification, analysis, and implementation of solutions.
• Embody the SLPC's equity, diversity and inclusion principles while interacting with staff and guests.
What you bring to the team
Mandatory requirements
• Conditional upon successful candidate completing a Canadian Firearms Safety Course and Canadian Restricted Firearm Safety Course and obtaining a valid Firearms Possession and Acquisition Licence (restricted).

• You have well developed leadership skills to motivate, supervise, organize and train staff.

• You demonstrate good judgment, political acuity and organizational awareness in managing issues and priorities.
KNOWLEDGE AND TECHNICAL EXPERTISE:
• You have knowledge of organization strategic directions, policies, programs and service delivery models to supervise a team, identify and recommend program resource requirements and adhere to program/service goals.
• You have knowledge of human resources practices, policies, directives and collective agreements in relation to recruitment, training and development, and employee relations.
• You have knowledge of financial and administrative procedures to reconcile and report on allocated fiscal, material resources and annual budgets.
• You have basic project management principles and methodologies to meet operational program deliverables.
• You have knowledge of specialized fields (e.g., living history, artisan techniques, museum collections, etc.), relevant heritage legislation, museum standards, and curriculum guidelines to develop and support programs and recommend improvements.
• You have knowledge of the care and safe use of period weapons and artillery and the safe handling and use of black powder in firing demonstrations.
COMMUNICATION AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
• You can establish and maintain strong working relationships with colleagues, key partners and stakeholders.
• You have advanced oral and written communication skills to provide direction and training to staff, and prepare business plans, reports, presentations and correspondence.
