About the job

• Provide rehabilitative services to offenders to support their adjustment upon returning to the community
• Organize resources for effective program delivery and promote these programs to offenders
• Enroll offenders in suitable programs and ensuring availability of the required resources to enable success
• Write case notes, input program tracking reports into database systems, and review statistical information
• Assist in the scheduling and coordination of fee-for-service providers
• Interview inmates and respond to offender requests
• Facilitate discharge planning

Please note: this position will require working some evening and weekend shifts based on operational requirements and schedule

What you bring to the team


Specialized Knowledge and Experience

You:
• understand how the justice system works, including court processes/documentation, and apply relevant legislation (e.g., Ministry of Correctional Services Act).
• know available programs and strategies that focus on criminogenic risk factors and risk/needs assessment as it relates to various offender programs (e.g., the Temporary Absence Program, Intermittent Community Work Program, and offender work programs).
• have knowledge of and/or experience working with community agencies to assist in discharge planning.

Facilitation, Interviewing, and Interpersonal Skills

You:
• have knowledge of group facilitation, theories, and related skills to effectively facilitate, instruct, and deliver rehabilitative programs for inmates.
• have applied interviewing skills and techniques to assess offender needs, motivation, and suitability for placements.
• can work with and provide services and programming to offenders
• can liaise with multi-disciplinary professionals and correctional staff

Analytical, Investigative, and Evaluative Skills

You:
• can gather information and make recommendations based on established criteria
• can assess the suitability of offenders to participate in various rehabilitative programs

Organizational and Computer Skills

You:
• can effectively organize and prioritize to complete work in a timely fashion
• can manage the coordination and scheduling of programs
• are proficient with computers to input/retrieve offender data from information systems and databases
• can prepare and maintain reports and statistical information
