About the job
In this role, you will:
• administer area maintenance contracts related to maintenance and repair of transportation related facilities, ensuring work is completed to contract documents and specifications
• monitor the contractors' delivery of maintenance and repair operations
• ensure contractors maintain work records
• monitor financial forecasts and expenditures
• provide analytical support to ensure effective delivery and value for money
NOTE: The position will require:
• occasional after hours and weekend work, including working alone
• working outside and walking on rough terrain (e.g. walking into a ditch as part of an inspection)
What you bring to the team
Mandatory requirements
• The positions require the successful candidates to have a valid class G driver's licence or equivalent. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidate providing proof that they have a valid driver's licence upon being hired.
Road Maintenance and Construction Knowledge
• understanding of road maintenance, inspection and repair in summer and winter conditions
• practical knowledge of road construction, practices, equipment and materials
Legislative and Contract Management Knowledge
• thorough knowledge and skills in contract administration
• ability to interpret and apply various acts and regulations such as the Highway Traffic Act and the Public Transportation and Highway Improvement Act
Supervisory and Planning Skills
• proven ability to plan and lead activities within established timeframes
• ability to supervise staff and manage stakeholders in high pressure situations
Communication, Negotiation and Computer Skills
• demonstrated negotiation, oral and written communication skills to deal effectively with contractors and the public
• working knowledge computers and various software applications such as word-processing, spreadsheets, databases and e-mail
