Bring your excellent customer service skills to the Ministry of the Solicitor General, where you will provide a wide variety of reception and clerical support services.

The Toronto South Detention Centre is a maximum-security correctional facility for adult male inmates located in Etobicoke (Toronto, Ontario). It is the second-largest correctional facility in Canada.

*PLEASE NOTE*
This position will be assigned shifts within the reception hours of operation, which is 7:30am to 9:00pm, 7 days a week (including statutory holidays) and will require you to work onsite for all scheduled shifts.

As this is a frontline essential position, your physical presence at the office is crucial to this role. This position is mandatory onsite at the Toronto South Detention Centre.

About the job

• Screen and direct multiple-line telephone switchboard calls to the appropriate staff
• Schedule, coordinate and administer visits
• Receive visitors and verify identification
• Process incoming and outgoing mail
• Compose a variety of documents and correspondence (e.g., letters, forms, memos, reports, etc.)
• File and maintain ongoing inventory, and order stationery as required

What you bring to the team


Customer Service, Interpersonal, and Communication Skills

• you are able to communicate clearly and provide excellent customer service when handling calls;
• you have demonstrated professionalism, tact, and courtesy when responding to callers, visitors, and staff

Office Administration Skills

• you have demonstrated experience using a multi-line switchboard as well as providing reception services;
• you have used general office practices and procedures when providing clerical support services;
• you have an understanding of legislation related to the release/confidentiality of information;
• you have an understanding and are able to follow relevant Canada Post regulations and mail/courier procedures to process mail

Computer Skills

• you are proficient with word processing, spreadsheet, and email software and applications to prepare a variety of correspondence and reports
• you have keyboarding skills to type and/or compose documents

Analytical and Problem Solving Skills

• you can determine the correct destination of incorrectly addressed mail;
• you are able to prioritize incoming calls and recognize and act upon unusual calls;
• you can deal with challenging callers and know when to refer the caller to appropriate staff
