Within the Policy Division at the Ministry of Natural Resources, you'll contribute to developing evidence-based policy that protects communities, supports sustainable development, and strengthens environmental resilience across Ontario.
The Development and Hazard Policy Branch provides leadership in the development of policy, legislation, regulations, and programs guiding protected area and natural heritage management, water resource management, and resource development (including aggregates, petroleum, and renewable energy). This is an opportunity to be part of a team shaping integrated solutions to complex environmental and land-use challenges.
About the job
In this role, you will:
• provide policy advice on strategic objectives/directives of policy areas related to natural hazards (e.g. flooding, drought, erosion),
• provide evidence-based policy research and analysis, and support project management,
• support consultation and engagement with the public and stakeholders for input to policy and program development, and
• work collaboratively in a dynamic team environment with other policy professionals.

Influence real decisions by contributing to high-profile, evidence-based policy work that informs provincial priorities and land-use planning.

What you bring to the team
Policy and Program Development Expertise:
You have:
• demonstrated experience applying policy and program development expertise, principles and techniques as well as program design and evaluation techniques.
Research, Analytical, and Investigative Skills:
You have:
• proven ability to determine appropriate data and information sources and apply survey techniques.
• experience analyzing and summarizing quantitative and qualitative research, and environmental scans, and analyzing trends from multijurisdictional sources.
• proficiency with modern digital tools and applications (e.g., Microsoft 365, data analysis and visualization tools) to analyze and interpret data, develop insights, and support evidence-based decision-making and reporting.
Interpersonal Skills:
You have:
• relationship management and consultation skills to build consensus among diverse internal and external stakeholders.
• demonstrated ability to lead consultations and apply persuasive communication techniques to engage and gather input from colleagues across government, industry partners, stakeholders, and Indigenous organizations.
Communication Skills:
You have:
• proven ability to compose technical reports, briefing materials, and presentations, and respond to a range of correspondence.
• the ability to communicate effectively to provide constructive input at meetings, conduct briefings, exchange information and describe technical and specialized information so as to be easily understood by a variety of audiences.
Project Management Skills:
You have:
• demonstrated project management skills, including planning, coordinating, and monitoring project activities, managing risks, and ensuring deliverables are completed on time and aligned with strategic objectives.
