Join the Ontario Science Centre and use your bilingual skills to turn science into clear, engaging French content for the public. You will work with experts across the Centre to create content for exhibits, programs, and digital materials for diverse audiences.

About the job

As a French Science Writer/Translator, you will:

• translate, write, and edit French content for exhibits, educational programs, the Centre's website, and related publications
• research scientific topics, and prepare clear and engaging copy
• translate scientific terms to French and ensure the use of accessible language
• work with internal and external partners across the organization to create materials, including pamphlets, brochures, web pages and articles
• ensure the quality and consistency of editorial content for the general public

What you bring to the team


Mandatory requirements

You must:

• be proficient in English and possess oral and written French skills at the superior level. Your proficiency level will be confirmed before hire.

Written and oral communication skills

You have:

• written communication skills in English and French to translate, write, edit and proofread various materials
• knowledge of communication, research and writing techniques and practices
• ability to adjust writing style and tone to match the purpose and audience
• oral and interpersonal communication skills to conduct interviews and gather information

Analytical and research skills

You have:

• analytical skills to research topics, evaluate issues and initiatives, and prepare communication materials
• the ability to identify research needs, find sources, and gather information from researchers, scientists, educators, students, and Centre staff

Science knowledge

You can:

• understand and present scientific information, and discuss ideas clearly for the general public
• demonstrate knowledge of science and education topics
• turn complex scientific and technical information into clear, engaging, understandable and enjoyable content for the public

Knowledge of print and digital media

You have:

• knowledge of design and print production processes, with project management skills to oversee freelance contractors and service suppliers
• experience writing content for websites and presentations

Computer skills

You can:

• use word processing, desktop publishing and communication software to produce print, website, and digital communication materials
• maintain a terminology database to ensure consistent language across all documents
