About the job
In this role you will play an integral part in the compilation, maintenance and processing of offender records at Sarnia Jail, including:
• obtaining and verifying required information to complete admission and discharge documentation;
• checking offender records to verify the legality of admittance documents;
• calculating and/or verifying sentences;
• performing a variety of keyboarding functions;
• maintaining up-to-date manual and electronic offender files and records;
• ensuring documents are completed upon notification of transfer or discharge of offender;
• providing authorized information to justice officials, law enforcement agencies, offenders and the general public.
What you bring to the team
Specialized Knowledge and Skills:
• You have demonstrated knowledge of records management procedures.
• You have knowledge of related inmate records directives, policies, procedures and related legislation such as the Criminal Code, Ministry of Correctional Services Act to ensure inmate records are consistent with court sentences and legislation.
• You have knowledge of office procedures and policies to maintain files, ensuring confidentiality of information.
• You have accurate mathematical skills to calculate and reconcile inmate sentences and personal funds.
Other Essential Skills:
• You use analytical, reasoning and problem solving skills to verify accuracy of information and correct discrepancies.
• You have effective communication and interpersonal skills to interact with inmates, staff, justice officials and the public, in a tactful and diplomatic manner.
• You use your organizational skills to assist in the maintenance of inmate filing and information systems.
• You are proficient with various computer software applications and databases (i.e. word processing, spreadsheet).
