We're looking for a strategic, creative communicator to lead messaging for the province's mining sector, an industry at the heart of Ontario's economic future. In this role, you'll work with a collaborative and committed team to deliver compelling communications that inform, engage, and influence while supporting key government priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

About the job

You will:
• develop and implement communications strategies to promote and profile government priorities
• write and edit communications materials, including news releases, social media content and questions and answers for elected officials and senior executives
•initiate reports, prepare briefing material on trends, contentious issues and potential policy implications
• participate and lead projects for the Communications Branch and/or the assigned portfolio/program area client group
• prepare strategic written materials to promote and publicize government programs
• provide input and advice in the development of writing standards, policies and procedures

What you bring to the team


Knowledge of communications, theories and practices

You have:
• demonstrated knowledge of contemporary communication design and planning principles, methods and practices, issues management, media relations and integrated marketing theories, principles and techniques
• the ability to learn and apply an understanding of government communication practices
• demonstrated use of writing and editing protocols, styles and techniques
• an understanding of public consultation processes methods and techniques, such as focus groups and surveys
• knowledge of web site development and multimedia tools
• ability to manage the production of strategic communications materials and projects

Analytical and problem-solving skills

You have the ability to:
• evaluate communications challenges and opportunities and propose responses, solutions and approaches
• assess communications implications of business planning on public attitudes and potential reactions to proposed initiatives
• develop methods and mechanisms for the evaluation of communications strategies
• assess type of research required, identify sources and gather and compile information
• evaluate projects and programs against desired outcomes

Relationship management and customer service skills

You have the ability to:
• understand client's business requirements in order to develop and recommend short and long-term communication plans and strategies
• build and maintain networks and partnerships with a variety of stakeholders
• make recommendations based upon client communication requirements
• assist clients in tendering processes and the selection of suppliers

Creative thinking and innovation skills

You have the ability to:
• determine innovative approaches to meet client needs
• identify innovative communications techniques and tactics arising from new technologies
• integrate client programs and initiatives into short and long term communications plans and strategies
• identify communication requirements and develop project schedules

Strategic thinking and reasoning skills

You have the ability to:
• analyze and incorporate diverse components of the organization's strategic communications into expert advice and communications materials
• provide issues management services through strategic media outreach and issues management plans and proposing social media and media relations strategies
