Position Title:
ENGINEERING DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM (EDP)**
Job Code:
PEGO - Négociation / Ingénierie 06, 06PBE
Job ID:
47811

Brief Overview Of Job Duties:

Rotating through various functional areas, participants have opportunities to work in Highway Design; Traffic, Bridge Engineering; Environmental; Geotechnical/Engineering materials; Operational Services; Maintenance; and/or Construction.

Since participants are working toward their P. Eng. Designation, each rotation has some applied theory. All rotations attempt to use the latest in technology so that EDP can best use their talents on new and emerging Provincial Highways projects.

Details:

Candidates will be recent university graduates within the last two years and have graduated from a four-year degree in an engineering discipline such as general civil, geotechnical, traffic management, transportation, structural, materials. Individuals are looking to gain their Professional Engineer licence (P. Eng) from the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO).

Applicants are hired on an underfill basis (as below) based on their skills and experience level and progress through the program. Recent graduates typically begin at the 04PBE level at $54,182.
04PBE $54,182 - $68,901
05PBE $60,682 - $76,556
06PBE $68,626 - $84,212

Note: Candidates must be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada eligible to work in Ontario.

Reporting Relationships:

In addition to reporting to a direct Supervisor, EDP participants benefit from the Division`s Mentorship Program. EDP interns get one-on-one guidance from assigned mentors who know their profession and the Division. The mentor will be available to answer questions, provide coaching, act as a sound board for ideas and support the EDP participant in their new professional experience.

Amount of Travel:

Participants in the EDP Program may travel to job-sites on a daily, weekly or monthly basis. Additionally, since the EDP Program is based on rotational experience, temporarily relocating to one of the Division`s five regions in Ontario, is possible. All work-related travel and temporary living relocation is paid for by the Ministry.

Career and Personal Development:

Participants are expected to complete approximately six rotational assignments, for a duration of six to 12 months each. In addition to providing non-licensed individuals with the work experience to obtain their P. Eng from PEO, interns, once credentialed, have the chance to compete for more senior engineering positions in the Ministry or across the Ontario Public Service. Given the scope of projects, networking across the Regions and within the broader private sector is also a benefit.

Community Profile:

Engineering Development Program participants count themselves among 2,000 employees of the MTO`s Provincial Highways Management Division!
