Purpose of Position :
To provide professional, technical, policy and administrative assistance, supporting the evaluation and reporting of Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) natural resource policies including legislation and regulations. To be an active member of the section and branch participating in projects or initiatives to support policy evaluation and reporting.
Duties / Responsibilities :
Assists in the evaluation and reporting of natural resource policies as they relate to MNRF's mandate including Biodiversity, Resource Management and conservation, Protected Area Management, Crown Land, Water and Non-Renewable Resource Management, Forestry and Emergency and Forest Fire Management
Managing information through data collection/consolidation, tracking, database maintenance, analysis and reporting.
Assisting with background reports, discussion papers, briefing documents and presentations by conducting literature searches and summarizing information from a variety of sources.
Works with a variety of information management technologies to perform the above tasks including email software such as Outlook, work processing software such as Word, internet, presentation software such as Power Point, spread sheets such as Excel, and data management software such as
Access and SharePoint.
Works in compliance with the provisions of the Health and Safety Act and regulations and any workplace practices as directed by the Manager and in accordance with Internal Responsibility System as outlined in OH & S Act.
Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge :
Understanding of the theory, principles and practices of natural resource management and environmental risk assessment planning and management.
Knowledge of policy research, evaluation, development and analysis principles, methods and techniques.
Knowledge of data and information analysis techniques and computer-based analytical, data management and modeling techniques to research, compile and analyze data; prepare reports and related materials, and recommend effective courses of action.
General understanding of government policy development processes.
Knowledge of personal computers including Microsoft Office software (Outlook, Work, Excel, PowerPoint, Access). Knowledge of or commitment to learn worker responsibilities as outlined in the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
Skills :
Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work effectively as a member of a team, or independently with limited supervision. Analytical and information management skills to research, manage and synthesize information and prepare reports.
Strong written communication skills to prepare reports, presentations, briefing and communications materials. Good organizational skills to assist with planning and delivery of multiple tasks/projects at the same time.
Good oral communication skills to participate in internal ministry meetings and make presentations as required.

Work is assigned and carried out under direction of a senior branch staff.
Work is guided by Ministry and government policies, legislation, objectives and priorities.
