Purpose of Position :

To assist in providing advice and support with respect to proposals and activities related to crown and municipal land use planning, Conservation Reserve planning, resource management planning and environmental assessment. To be an active member of the Regional Land Use Planning Unit team in the successful completion of planning related activities and projects.

Duties / Responsibilities :

Assists and participates in the input and review of land use and resource management policy documents, broad scale or landscape level projects, proposals and environmental assessment documents by

- applying knowledge of legislation, policy, theory, principles and practice, to provide information and advice on questions of content;

- preparing background reports, discussion papers;

- assisting in the collection, consolidation and analysis of statistical data;

- assisting in the development of planning options, including the analysis of options for effectiveness and implications.

Assists and participates in the delivery of land use planning, resource management planning advice and training to project teams, region wide staff and external agencies and clients.

Assists in providing interpretation, explanation and advice to clients and stakeholders regarding Crown, municipal and resource management planning legislation, policy and procedures.

Assists and participates with consultation and facilitation initiatives by:

- assisting with the preparation of communications materials;

- organizing and attending meetings, workshops, open houses;

- documenting, compiling and organizing public input;

- drafting responses to public input.

Prepares draft briefing notes, Minister's letters.

Knowledge :

Job requires knowledge and understanding of legislation and policies governing municipal and crown land use planning, resource management planning and environmental assessment.

Job requires good understanding of the theory, principles, and practices of crown and municipal land use planning, natural resource management and environmental assessment.

Job requires good knowledge of office computer applications in order to access email, organize and analyse data and prepare reports.

Job requires basic knowledge of analytical techniques.

Job requires knowledge of worker responsibility as outlined in the OH&S Act.

Work is carried out under the general direction of the Land Use Planning Supervisor with specific direction of the Regional Planning Coordinator.

Work is reviewed by others for completeness and accuracy.

Can be expected to provide background reports, discussion papers on project status.
