Purpose of Position :

As a member of the Ontario Parks team, under the general supervision of Park Management, conducts a variety of technical duties and program responsibilities associated with the day to day operation of a provincial park.

Duties / Responsibilities :

1) Conducts technical, planning, operational and monitoring duties for the successful day-to-day operation of the campground, day use facilities and backcountry by:
- Assist park staff with operations such as park store operations, maintenance, fee collection, discovery education program, backcountry operations as per provincial legislation, regulations, policies and procedures.
- Assist with the operation of the parks research and monitoring program
- Assisting in the preparation of work plans and in the full implementation of approved work programs; preparing and keeping current annual operating strategies and emergency plans.
- Preparing written correspondence, answering written and verbal inquiries from interest groups, public and other government agencies.
- Support the operation of the campground, day use facilities and backcountry and ensure that a high standard of public safety is maintained.
- Assist with the operation of and maintenance of water treatment and wastewater facilities under the supervision of certified operators.
- Preparing administrative and planning reports, ordering equipment and supplies, ensuring client satisfaction, handling of complaints, both oral and written, and consulting with park management on contentious matters.
- Assist with projects relating to park planning, discovery education programming and other park specific initiatives.

2) Performs other duties as assigned, such as:
- Assisting other members of the park team during vacation/illness and other peak workloads; assisting other ministry programs areas as required.

Staffing and Licensing :

Valid G driver's licence

Ability to obtain Standard First Aid, Small Systems Water Treatment, Chainsaw, ATV, Snowmobile, Tractor, Canoe and Kayak (ORCKA) certification and Pleasure Craft Operators Card.

Ability to work shifts including, evenings, weekends and statutory

Ability to undertake self supported travel and camp overnight in remote wilderness locations for consecutive periods of up to 8-10 days

Knowledge :

- Good working knowledge of resource management principles and techniques as they apply to parks as well as relevant act regulations, policies, procedures and guidelines.
- Good working knowledge of park management techniques, programs and operating regulations.
- Knowledge of and ability to use personal computers and smart phones including word processing, record keeping, spreadsheets, E-mail, social media, online meeting software, and organising digital files.
- Knowledge of and ability to travel and camp safely in remote wilderness setting
- Working knowledge and skill in the maintenance of a variety of office and light powered equipment such as lawnmowers, tractors, ATV's, Snowmobiles, chainsaws, boats, hand tools, etc
- Working knowledge of general building, groundskeeping maintenance.
- Good working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and those regulations made under the act as they apply to the workplace and the work being performed.

Skills :

Strong teamwork, interpersonal, organizational, research, oral and written communication skills. Ability to work independently, follow and carry out instructions, work shifts, weekends and statutory holidays as per schedule.

Freedom of Action :

Job requires working within established legislation, policies, and procedures. Job requires adhering to and accessing relevant ministry guidelines, directives and established practices. Matters of continuous nature are referred to park management. Job requires performing tasks with minimal direct supervision.
