Purpose of Position :

Within the framework of the transitional phase of redevelopment planning for Ontario Place:
- To provide electrical services including maintenance, repair, and installation to Ontario Place Corporation facilities and grounds, control systems for sewage and irrigation stations, and associated systems and equipment relating to the automated HVAC system.

Duties / Responsibilities :

Reporting to Manager, Marina and Site Services, the position:
- Installs, services, replaces and upgrades electrical equipment (e.g. panels, transformers, switch gear) required for OPC operations including facilities (e.g. lighting, power distribution, communication equipment) and grounds (e.g. exterior lighting, underground electrical), control systems (e.g. parking, sewage, irrigation).
- Performs minor repairs to electronic components of HVAC electrical equipment (e.g. heating/air, automated building HVAC system) and associated systems and equipment, including diagnosis and troubleshooting, modifying parameters of software and performing override functions locally and remotely. More complex or specialized work/problems that are outside of scope of this position are referred to the Manager to determine course of action, i.e. outsource to licensed HVAC specialist/mechanic
- Inspects, tests, trouble shoots, assesses the physical condition of wiring systems and equipment, diagnoses malfunctions, damage, and failure, determines whether there are safety concerns, conducts repair or replacement of electrical parts and retests equipment/system to confirm equipment/system is operational;
- Performs electrical safety inspections on electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, to determine the need for adjustment or repair
- Uses hand, power, diagnostic and technical tools and equipment (e.g. drill, measuring devices, saws, pliers, wrenches, hammers, megometer, ammeters, and volt meter, locator, etc.0 to inspect, diagnose, test for defects and to perform maintenance, repairs and modifications;
- Reviews drawings/blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals to carry out modifications, repair work, maintenance and upgrades to systems and equipment that house hydraulic and pneumatic electrical components.
- Performs utilities locates (water/gas/electrical/communications) to determine underground utilities to support event related activities, construction work or renovations and type of excavation work required on OPS grounds;
- Records repair and replace entries into Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) log book to ensure inspections adhere to ESA safety standards and code compliance. Foreman/Manager is kept informed of work status/completion and reviews and monitor work progress to sure work performed is satisfactory and to OPC quality standards;
- Position operates motorized vehicles, e.g. trucks, vans, golf carts;
Other duties as assigned.

Staffing and Licensing :

- Valid Certificate of Apprenticeship
- Valid Certificate of Qualification as a Construction and Maintenance Electrician (309A)
- ARC Flash Certificate
- Valid G drivers licence

Knowledge :

Job requires:
- Knowledge of electronics, techniques, practices, equipment and applicable tools required to perform repairs /maintenance, to diagnose, trouble shoot and resolve problems, and install and upgrade equipment/ systems.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, electrical and provincial building codes, and Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) regulations and standards and Fire Act compliance to ensure safety and integrity of installations.
- Knowledge of building and construction materials, methods, use and application of technical and diagnostic tools involved in the construction/repair of buildings.
- Knowledge of computerized building (HVAC) automated systems to diagnose/troubleshoot, perform minor repairs to electronic components, modify parameters of software and perform override functions locally and remotely. More complex or specialized work/problems that are outside of scope of the position are referred to the Foreman/Manager to determine course of action.
- Knowledge of Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) for proper and safe operation/utilization of equipment and tools (e.g. usage, repair and maintenance) and to maintain the safety and security of the work place.
- Knowledge of drawings, schematics and specifications to carry out detailed, repair, maintenance, and upgrades of electrical wiring, fixtures, control devices, and related systems/equipment in buildings, facilities and OPC grounds.

Skills :

- Ability to install electrical equipment and devices, control panels and systems, fixtures, machines, and wiring to meet electrical specifications and building code and TSSA regulations and standards.
- Ability to perform electrical repairs and maintenance work on machines, fixtures, devices, equipment or systems and to use and handle necessary tools safely.
- Judgment skills to determine the work sequencing required to assess and diagnose malfunctions, work methods and to determine the selection of tools and equipment appropriate to performing work safely.
- Analytical and problem solving skills to assess and resolve problems and develop options/solutions.
- Mathematical skills to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals and the application of metric, algebraic, geometric, and statistical measures.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Oral communications and interpersonal skills to read, understand, and follow instructions and convey instructions and information to trades people, staff, Maintenance Electrician Forman and Manager, Marina and Site Services. Written communication skills to record and replace entries into the Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) log book .
- Time management skills to ensure work is performed in a timely manner especially as it relates to the impact of others supporting the completion of work.
- Ability to acquire: Forklift certificate, Confined Space Entry certificate, High lift certificate, Cable locator certificate, Propane Handling certificate, Fall Arrest certificate.

Freedom of Action :

- Position exercises broad independence to inspect and evaluate the cause of malfunctions, damage and failure to perform electrical maintenance/repairs and to reinstate operation.
- Position exercises independence to plan, organize and coordinate work with particular attention when working with other trades persons and contractors in the completion of their work.
- Position works in accordance with building codes, ESA regulations and standards, legislation, guidelines and established trade practices.
- Positions exercises broad independence in deciding sequences or steps necessary to perform installation and repairs and latitude in determining that work performed is compliant with safety standards, codes, legislation and meets ESA regulations and standards.
- Position exercises independence in the selection and operation of hand, power, diagnostic and technical tools and vehicles, and equipment required to perform work and handling and to ensure the usage is appropriate and safe and in accordance with safety policies, procedures, and practices.
