Chemical Analyst :

Work Description: In this role, you may have the opportunity to work on some or all of the following activities:

    • Assist staff with laboratory work in the field of chemical analysis; sample types may include air, water, soil, fish, and vegetation
    • Assist staff with technical work including sample preparation, analysis and data reporting of parameters such as nutrients, Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), metals, Polychlorinated Biphenyl (PCB), pesticides
    • Work in accordance with established quality system to ensure data quality objectives are met
    • Plan, organize, coordinate and managed daily assigned work
    • Work may require experience specified/listed in the questions below or other similar tasks as assigned

Knowledge and Skill Requirements for Chemical Analyst:

    Communication and Interpersonal skills:
    • You apply your written communication skills to prepare a variety of documents (e.g. reports, document findings, record data)
    • You apply your initiative and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team

    Technical Skills and Knowledge:
    • You apply your knowledge of chemistry and safe chemical laboratory practices using the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS)
    • You apply your knowledge of chemical analysis procedures
    • You apply your experience using Microsoft Office product suite, such as word processing (Word), spreadsheets (Excel), databases; email and Internet to conduct research and prepare a variety of documents

    Analytical and Organizational Skills:
    • You apply your evaluative and analytical skills to make determinations of basic water quality parameters and chemical parameters
    • You work independently or as part of a team; you plan, organize and prioritize your time to meet competing deadlines
    • You are willing and able to accompany fish culture staff on fish stocking assignments throughout the region.
    • You are able to work in a strenuous environment and inclement weather.

Climate Change Research Assistant :

Work Description: In this role, you may have the opportunity to work on some or all of the following activities:

    • Assist staff with field sampling of peatlands, including collecting peat cores, and downloading and quality assuring weather station, permafrost, and peat soil temperature and moisture data.
    • You may be working in a technically-demanding laboratory setting using traditional (e.g. culturing, microscopy) and molecular (e.g. PCR, RFLP) techniques in the study of fungal disease pathogens of forest trees.
    • You may work with gas chromatography or other analytical methods.
    • Perform field analyses, sample preparation, and chemical laboratory analyses, and collect, review, verify, and enter information/data into databases/forms.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements for Climate Change Research Assistant:

    Communication and Interpersonal Skills:
    • You apply your written communication skills to document findings, record data, and prepare a variety of documents (e.g. reports).
    • You apply your initiative and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team.

    Technical Skills and Knowledge:
    • You apply your experience using Microsoft Office applications, such as Word (word processing) and Excel (spreadsheets), as well as databases, email, and the internet to conduct research and prepare a variety of documents.
    • You are able to work in a technically-demanding laboratory environment, and have a general knowledge of lab practices, techniques and scientific theories in such disciplines as biology, molecular biology, chemistry and/or biochemistry.
    • You are able to use word processing, spreadsheets, and graphical programs, and to report results in written format.
    • You are able to work outdoors in diverse weather conditions, and to participate in a variety of field sampling protocols to obtain various samples for the multiple research projects within each program.

    Analytical and Organizational Skills:
    • You apply your planning and organizational skills to collect, organize, review, and verify information/data through review of files, reports, and other means.

Clinical Review Pharmacy Assessor :

Work Description: You will be working closely with a dynamic and dedicated team of pharmacists, technicians, and support staff to assist in the processing, assessment, and review of drug funding submissions from across the province. In this role, you may have the opportunity to work on some or all of the following activities:

    • Data interpretation, classification, verification, and information processing of clinical submissions.
    • Assist the EAP team with the assessment of requests for the funding of non-formulary drugs based on clinical information provided and established criteria.
    • Respond to inquiries from physician offices and other health professionals through verbal or written communication.
    • Respond to and process calls from physicians and/or their delegates on EAP's Telephone Request Service (TRS).

    Note: Students that have completed their third year of university in a recognized pharmacy program are preferred.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements for Clinical Review Pharmacy Assessor:

    Communication and Interpersonal Skills:
    • You apply your written communication skills to document findings and prepare a variety of documents (e.g. reports, data records, presentations, meeting minutes, etc.).
    • You apply your customer service and verbal, written, and active listening communication skills to respond to phone, email, and in-person inquiries, and provide information to internal clients and/or the public.

    Technical Skills and Knowledge:
    • You apply your experience using Microsoft Office applications, such as Word (word processing) and Excel (spreadsheets), as well as databases, email, and the internet to conduct research and prepare a variety of documents.
    • You apply your knowledge and/or experience in writing, editing and proofreading various communication documents.
    • You have a working knowledge of a variety of internet resources for drug information.

    Analytical and Organizational Skills:
    • You are able to work independently or as part of a team; you plan, organize and prioritize your time to meet competing deadlines.
    • You apply your excellent organizational and time management skills to meet timelines and work effectively within a fast paced environment.
    • You have effective critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

    Other Requirements:
    • You are a Pharmacy Student who is eligible to graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy, and you are familiar with Ontario/Canadian Pharmacy regulations.

Geological Assistant :

Work Description: In this role, you may have the opportunity to work on some or all of the following activities:

    • Assist staff by performing research and data compilation, including assembling information from hardcopy and digital sources, performing data entry, and preparing geological material for sampling and analysis.
    • Assist staff by performing field work, including site visits to outcrops, mineral deposits, occurrences and mine sites, prospector's claims, and exploration sites.
    • Provide customer service assistance by responding to clients, staff, and the public to address their needs.
    • Perform office and administrative duties (e.g. filing, photocopying, map reproduction, and digital drafting).
    • Conduct internet searches and data analyses using maps and statistical information.
    • Plan, organize, coordinate, and manage daily assigned work.

    Note: Position may require lifting and carrying weighted items in accordance with the Employment Standards Act and Workplace Health and Safety regulations.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements for Geological Assistant:

    Communication and Interpersonal Skills:
    • You apply your written communication skills to document findings, record data, and prepare and maintain a variety of documents (e.g. reports, data records, presentations, meeting minutes, etc.).

    Technical Skills and Knowledge:

Laboratory and Research Assistant :

Work Description: In this role, you may have the opportunity to work on some or all of the following activities:

    • Collect trace evidence samples for analysis.
    • Work with scientists and technologists to prepare, analyze, and/or sort survey samples and standards, using various types of analytical instrumentation.
    • Prepare samples for shipping/distribution to assigned destinations/agencies/workstations.
    • Perform data entry and/or updating records (e.g. in the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)).
    • Work safely with equipment and chemical products, and maintain all work areas in a safe, neat, and clean condition, ensuring compliance with Health & Safety and Workplace Hazardous Materials Information Systems (WHMIS) regulations and requirements.
    • Provide customer service assistance by responding to public and/or internal inquiries.
    • Plan, organize, coordinate, and manage daily assigned work.

    Note: Position may require some physical activity, including bending and twisting, lifting and carrying weighted items, operating forklifts and other lifting devices in accordance with the Employment Standards Act and Workplace Health and Safety Regulations.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements for Laboratory and Research Assistant:

    Communication and Interpersonal Skills:
    • You apply your customer service and verbal, written, and active listening communication skills to respond to phone, email, and in-person inquiries, and provide information to internal clients and/or the public.
    • You apply your initiative and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team.

    • You sort samples safely to ensure they are distributed/delivered correctly.
    • You input data accurately and generate reports, paying close attention to detail.
    • You apply your experience using Microsoft Office applications, such as Word (word processing) and Excel (spreadsheets), as well as databases, email, and the internet to conduct research and prepare a variety of documents.

    Analytical and Organizational Skills:
