Aircraft Maintenance Assistant :

Work Description: In this role, you may have the opportunity to work on some or all of the following activities. Under the supervision of senior staff, maintain cleanliness of aircraft exteriors and interiors condition in accordance with procedures and standard protocols by:

    • Performing inspections on a daily basis and after each flight.
    • Making decisions on required action to restore cleanliness and to carry out routine daily cleanliness requirements.
    • Cleaning aircraft surfaces, fabrics, wood components, etc.

    Perform general routine duties between base locations including:
    • Driving government vehicles to pick up and deliver aircraft parts and support engineers in the field.
    • Assisting with shipping and receiving of aircraft parts.
    • Cleaning and maintaining shop facilities.
    • Cleaning government vehicles.
    • Assisting with mechanical maintenance and safety of aircraft as directed by an Air Engineer.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements for Aircraft Maintenance Assistant:

    Communication and Interpersonal Skills:
    • You apply your verbal communication skills to communicate and ask for direction from staff to perform maintenance and routine aircraft duties (e.g. cleanliness).
    • You apply your active listening skills to follow instructions and protocols to ensure safety standards and requirements are met.
    • You apply your initiative and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively within a team environment and follow instructions.

    Technical Skills and Knowledge:
    • You apply your mechanical skills and knowledge to perform routine aircraft maintenance.

    Analytical and Organizational Skills:
    • You are able to pay attention to detail and follow safety instructions protocols and procedures.
    • You have a demonstrated ability to apply basic safe operating practices to work with machinery and equipment.

    Other Requirements:
    • Certain positions require that you have a valid Ontario G2 (or higher) Driver's Licence or equivalent.
    • You are able to work in an outdoor environment with some physical activity involved, including lifting and carrying weighted items in accordance with the Employment Standards Act and Workplace Health and Safety regulations.
    • You will be provided with training specific to the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), MNRF Safety Management System, and mechanical maintenance instruction.

General Maintenance Assistant :

Work Description: In this role, you may have the opportunity to work on some or all of the following activities:

    • Assist staff with ground and lawn maintenance, and general building and equipment maintenance (e.g. painting, brush removal, clearing culverts, and servicing equipment, tools, and machinery).
    • Assist in carrying out inspections of facilities and grounds.
    • Complete maintenance and inspection records.

    The following skills will be developed on the job:
    • Written communication skills to document findings, record data, and prepare a variety of documents (e.g. reports).
    • Interpersonal and team-work skills by working collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team.
    • Computer software skills, including Microsoft Office applications such as Word (word processing) and Excel (spreadsheets), as well as databases, email, and the internet to conduct research and prepare a variety of documents.
    • The ability to apply basic safe operating practices to work with machinery and equipment.
    • The ability to conduct mechanical maintenance of grounds, buildings, and lawn care equipment and tools. (e.g. tractors, lawn mowers, weed trimmers, and portable pumps)
    • You will be provided with training on the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS).
    • Administrative and record-keeping skills to complete daily log entries and maintenance reports of inspections.
    • Planning and organizational skills to be able to work independently or as part of a team, and to effectively plan, organize, and prioritize your work.

    Note:
    • This position requires lifting and carrying weighted items in accordance with the Employment Standards Act and Workplace Health and Safety regulations.
    • Some positions may require you to be a minimum of 18 years old due to operational reasons.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements for General Maintenance Assistant:

    These positions are entry level and will focus on developing skills for students. Having the following general skills and work habits will be an asset:
    • The ability to work outdoors with some physical activity involved, including lifting and carrying weighted items (in accordance with the Employment Standards Act and Workplace Health and Safety regulations).
    • Ability and comfort in operating small machinery and equipment, including using lawn care tools.
    • The ability to follow directions and seek clarification when needed.
    • The ability to pay attention to detail.
    • The ability to record information accurately.
    • The ability to process and prepare administrative paperwork and payments.
    • The ability to be punctual.
    NOTE: Candidates with varying skills and volunteer/school/work experience will be considered.

Ontario Place Parks Services/Landscape Technician :

Work Description: In this role, you may have the opportunity to work on some or all of the following activities:

    • Be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of the park to ensure a clean and safe environment.
    • Provide garbage removal services throughout the site by emptying receptacles into bins and transporting bins to central waste collection area by motorized utility vehicle (gator/golf cart).
    • Assist staff with ground and lawn maintenance, brush removal, and clearing culverts.
    • Operate a variety of small gas-powered landscape tools to maintain landscaped spaces.
    • Assist in the set-up, monitoring, and clean-up of events.
    • Identify problems and attempt to resolve them before deferring to the Assistant Manager.
    • Assist with a variety of other tasks around the park as needed.

    Note:
    • You may be required to work in an outdoor environment with some physical activity involved, including lifting and carrying weighted items in accordance with the Employment Standards Act and Workplace Health and Safety regulations.
    • You must be at least 18 years of age

Knowledge and Skill Requirements for Ontario Place Parks Services/Landscape Technician:

    • You apply your excellent customer service and verbal/written communication skills to respond to phone, email, and in-person inquiries, and provide information to internal clients and/or the public.
    • You apply your initiative and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team.

    Technical Skills and Knowledge:
    • You apply basic safe operating practices to work with machinery and equipment.
    • You are able to conduct mechanical maintenance of grounds, buildings, and lawn care equipment and tools (e.g. tractors, lawn mowers, weed trimmers and portable pumps).

    Analytical and Organizational Skills:
    • You work independently or as part of a team; you plan, organize and prioritize your time to meet competing deadlines
    • You are able to follow directions and seek clarification as needed.

    Other Requirements:
    • You are at least 18 years of age.
    • You must have a valid Ontario G1 (or higher) Driver's Licence or equivalent.
    • You are able to work in an outdoor environment in a variety of weather conditions with some physical activity involved, including lifting and carrying weighted items in accordance with the Employment Standards Act and Workplace Health and Safety regulations.
    • You are comfortable working around water.
    • You are willing and able to be flexible and to work assigned shifts. Shifts will vary in length and days of week due to events. A schedule will be provided 2 weeks in advance.
    • You will be provided with training on the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS).
