Conducting and or participating in the operational components of metallic and industrial mineral study projects such as field investigations, laboratory studies and computer based activities, including supervision and oversight of project teams (e.g. assignment of work, technical guidance, safety compliance)

4. Creating, organizing and producing inventory reports, spreadsheets, location maps, graphics and presentations and effectively communicate the Provinces mineral deposit information to internal and external client groups and stakeholders such as government, mineral industry, academia and the public.

5. Utilizing applicable software and hardware for databases, spreadsheets, word processing and geographical information management systems (GIS) to assist in the solution of mineral deposit geoscience problems including helping to define technical gaps, researching solutions and providing interpretations and recommendations.

7. Managers have the right to assign additional duties.

Staffing and Licencing :

Certified as a Professional Geoscientist with the Association of Professional Geoscientists of Ontario.

Valid Class G driver's license

Knowledge :

Job requires knowledge of current office, laboratory and field-based scientific theories, practices and techniques directly related to the discipline of geology combined with research skills in relevant sub-disciplines of geoscience (e.g. economic geology, mineralogy, structural geology, lithogeochemistry) that are applicable to metallic and industrial mineral deposits in Precambrian and Paleozoic rocks and normally acquired from a university of recognized standing to: collect mineral deposit data from all sources and accurately describe empirical mineral deposit characteristics through on-site data collection; to make primary field-based geological observations and understand local geological relationships by observing, measuring and collecting data otherwise not obtainable; to write reports and input data into MDI for review and approval of a Regional Resident Geologist and/or manager. Job requires knowledge of mineral exploration and mining operations and their chemical and physical characteristics to identify audit and catalogue site characteristics associated with operations in the filed AND the knowledge of and ability to use field equipment and procedures to take measurements and conduct tests and collect information for further analyses. Job requires knowledge of lithogeochemistry to interpret and determine the relevance of anomalous concentrations of metals in rocks and mineralization and to infer alteration types,. Job requires knowledge of geophysics to infer the presence and distribution of rock types and local map-scale structures in collaboration with, and review by, a Geophysicist to better understand the local context of the occurrence. Job requires knowledge of orienteering and GPS technology to ensure accurate location of mineral deposits, to make accurate and repeatable field observations and for safe travel in remote wilderness areas. Job requires knowledge of applicable and available software and hardware including Microsoft Office suite of software for databases, spreadsheet and word processing, GIS-based data management systems in stand-alone and concurrent licensing scenarios and associated CADD based data entry and visualization. Knowledge of Health and Safety practices, processes and knowledge of any potential or actual risk to health and safety that apply to the workplace to ensure safety compliance in the office and field workplaces.

Skills :

Job requires analytical and evaluation skills to interpret, validate and organize descriptive mineral deposit-related geoscience data and observations. Job requires planning and organizational skills to independently organize and validate a variety of mineral deposit-specific geoscience data and observations; to gather from existing databases or literature sources the data and information (e.g. field observations, lithogeochemical data, geophysical data, diamond-drill hole data, assessment work, historical information) required to create new mineral deposit descriptions or update existing descriptions. Job requires communication skills to produce mineral deposit descriptions; develop and conduct presentations; and relate, clarify and exchange information verbally or in writing with colleagues and peers, the public, government, First Nations, academic and mineral industry clients. Job requires interpersonal skills to interact with clients; to provide advice to government and/or mineral exploration industry clients; when requesting data from mineral industry, academic and/or government geoscientists; and when participating as a team member on multidisciplinary projects. Job requires the skill to work in a team environment by contributing willingly to the objectives of the team, sharing technical ideas openly, participating in administrative or non-technical activities assigned to the team. Job requires computer skills to organize, input and store data, produce reports, communicate with clients, research information and develop presentations.

Job has freedom to determine project requirements (e.g. determining logistics, scheduling activities and developing work plans) within guidelines; and scopes project-related problems in consultation with manager and/or Resident Geologist. Job has freedom to carry out field investigations, and computer-based activities. Job requires regularly updating manager and/or Regional Resident Geologist on project progress and identifying operational or scientific problems.
