About the job

The Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services, Ontario Provincial Police, is looking for Operational Analysts to provide operational and tactical analysis, situational awareness and intelligence to the Provincial Operations Centre (POC) to identify emerging trends, establish priorities, approaches and mitigation strategies with a focus on criminal activities. To work as part of a POC team in a pressurized environment, providing adaptive analysis as changes to deadlines and priorities occur.

Mandatory:

Ability to pass an OPP background security investigation.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Delivers strategic, operational, tactical, investigative and intelligence analysis for use by the POC and units requiring support from the POC. Responds and provides analysis to assist the POC Supervisor in making informed decisions in order to provide timely and accurate information when managing and directing events.

Collects, evaluates, collates and analyzes confidential information relating to criminals and crime groups to support intelligence gathering process to meet OPP and POC mandates. Collects, analyzes and synthesizes intelligence data by utilizing software/databases (i.e. iNetviewer, Computer Aided Dispatch, Palantir etc.) in addition to a variety of other intelligence and information sources. Prepares and presents data in meaningful formats. Identifies intelligence gaps and develops methods to address.

Prepares clear, concise and timely written reports, link charts, graphs and timelines in various formats in support of operational / predictive analytics for the POC.

Communicates with other internal intelligence units to gather and disseminate information as appropriate. Maintain a close working relationship with Regional Intelligence Coordinators, other regional crime analysis members and POIB analysts (AST, CPAT,OCAT and IIMU).

Develops and maintains contacts with external law enforcement and investigative agencies at the municipal, federal and international levels (i.e. CISO, CISC, CSIS) to access intelligence and to exchange information and findings on organized crime, regional crime trends and extremist/terrorist activities.

Maintains situational awareness of developing crime / traffic trends, major events and critical situations. Evaluates information and intelligence at an operational level. Uses predictive analysis to determine where and when potential offences will occur.

Assists the POC team in assessing, planning and responding appropriately toward corporate objectives. Receives, monitors and communicates critical/sensitive information and intelligence received internally and externally, including open source materials, as per policies, directives, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and guidelines.

Maintains an issued notebook and attends court to give evidence when required. Completes and submit OPP forms and reports as required (i.e. attendance, overtime, expenses); performs computer related functions – reports, queries, entries etc. Utilize and remain current on the policies regarding NICHE RMS, ACIIS, and other computer systems and databases. Maintains assigned equipment.
