As a Youth Programs/Livestock Park Operations Assistant, you may have the opportunity to work on some or all of the following activities:
- Provide customer service assistance by responding to public and/or internal inquiries.
- Assist with a variety of administrative duties.
- Plan, organize, coordinate, and manage daily assigned work.
These positions will support different teams on a range of program-related activities, including:
Youth Programs
- Participate in the planning, delivery, and evaluation of child and youth summer programs.
- Collect and record feedback from program participants.
Livestock Park Operations
- Assist with general duties and responsibilities of maintaining the Park's operations.
- Assist with programs and activities that relate to the Park's programs.
- Assist with the well-being of all livestock.
- Participate in the development and maintenance of demonstration crops and horticulture program.
- Assist with/participate in educational programming.
- Assist with daily upkeep of the Park's site/grounds and buildings.

Mandatory requirements
You must meet all eligibility criteria on the first day of employment to be eligible for these positions.
- Student Status: All summer jobs require a “student” status. A student is defined as someone enrolled in a secondary or post-secondary institution (currently or for the fall semester) or has graduated within the past six months. If you graduated in January, you could apply for and start a summer student position in the Ontario Public Service up until June of that year.
- Age: You must be a minimum of 15 years of age. Due to program eligibility requirements, certain opportunities require students to be up to 24 years of age (or up to 29 years of age for a person with a disability). Certain positions require you to be a minimum of 18 years of age. You must meet all age requirements for the position by May 1, 2017.
- Residency: You must be a resident of Ontario during the term of employment.
- Work Status – Ability to Work in Canada: You much be legally entitled to work in Canada. You are also required to have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN) upon being hired.
Communication and Interpersonal Skills
- You apply your written communication skills to document findings, record data, and prepare and maintain a variety of documents (e.g. reports, presentations, meeting minutes, etc.).
- You apply your verbal communication skills to communicate and share your knowledge with staff and program participants, and to support the delivery of education and outreach initiatives.
- You apply your customer service skills and your verbal, written, and active listening communication skills to respond to phone, email, and in-person inquiries, and provide information to internal clients and/or the public.
- You apply your initiative and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team and participate in meetings.
Technical Skills and Knowledge
- You apply your knowledge and experience in creative arts and youth development to assist with the planning and delivery of educational summer programs.
- You apply your knowledge and experience in agriculture, crops, and/or livestock to increase awareness of Ontario's agriculture and food system – past and present – or to assist with livestock feeding routines and handling.
- You apply basic safe operating practices to work with machinery and equipment.
- You have the ability to maintain clean housing for livestock.
- You have the ability to maintain park grounds and perform lawn care by mowing, trimming, etc.
- You apply your experience using Microsoft Office applications, such as Word (word processing), Excel (spreadsheets) and Access (databases), as well as email and the internet to conduct research and prepare a variety of documents.
Analytical and Organizational Skills
- You apply your planning and organizational skills to collect, organize, review, and verify information/data through review of files, reports, and other means.
- You have the ability to understand archival practices.
- You work independently or as part of a team; you plan, organize, and prioritize your work to meet competing deadlines.
Other Requirements
- You are willing to participate in a two-day orientation and training session including standard St. John First Aid and basic CPR.
