Demonstrate your supervisory skills to lead a group of technical and professional staff responsible for delivering aquatic biomonitoring programs that ensure the safety and quality of Ontario's waters.
About the job
In this role, you will:
• provide scientific expertise and supervision of the Sport Fish and Biomonitoring unit
• prepare and present scientific and technical issues and provide related expertise to senior management
• interpret environmental data and report on the implications of results
• provide effective leadership to the unit staff
• develop joint venture partnerships with other jurisdictions involving the public and private sectors
• assess and evaluate current and potential environmental health hazards
• identify and measure new and emerging environmental threats
What you bring to the team
MANDATORY
Environmental Knowledge
• You know aquatic chemistry or aquatic biology and understand the associated theories, principles and practices
• You know and have experience working on a range of environmental issues which affect water quality in Ontario
• You know and understand the theories and practices of environmental assessment evaluation, planning and management
• You know how to apply scientific methodologies for environmental monitoring, including scientific analytical techniques, processes and technologies
Legislative Knowledge
• You can interpret and apply relevant legislation, regulations, standards, guidelines, policies, and collective agreements such as the Ontario Water Resources Act, Environmental Protection Act, Environmental Bill of Rights, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System, and Health Canada's tolerable daily intake guidelines.
Program Planning and Leadership Skills
• You have excellent program planning and co-ordination skills
• You know how to build and maintain effective partnerships
• You are a good negotiator
• You have strong leadership experience and can manage staff effectively
Communication and Computer Skills
• You have proven communication skills
• You interact well with all levels of staff
• You demonstrate excellent tact and diplomacy
• You know how to use a variety of computer software such as word processing, spreadsheet, database, statistical, graphical and presentation software
