The Ontario Correctional Institute is seeking an individual to perform housekeeping services in practical aspects of institutional housekeeping.
About the job
In this role, you will:
• Perform physical cleaning services such as operating heavy duty industrial cleaning equipment, using of platform lifts
• Daily supervision of selected inmate helpers/workers on a daily basis
• Maintain premises by cleaning, mopping, vacuuming, dusting offices, corridors, washing woodwork and tilesand other various cleaning related duties utilizing appropriate solutions/methods
• Perform general services such as, separating recyclable materials, unloading supplies from trucks, locking doors, switching off utilities
• Maintain records and security of cleaning supplies used, and requesting supervisor to requisition replacement supplies
• Supervise selected inmate helper/workers on a daily basis
What you bring to the team
Housekeeping Skills:
• You have knowledge of cleaning methods and the ability to use industrial cleaning equipment, e.g. floor polishers, vacuum cleaners and materials to perform required cleaning and housekeeping duties
Technical Knowledge and Skills:
• You have demonstrated knowledge/experience in Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) for safe handling of chemical solutions used for cleaning
• You have understanding of Occupational Health and Safety Act and provisions
• you have knowledge to maintain safety and security of the work area
Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills:
You are able to:
• Determine the type of cleaning agent used for various cleaning tasks
• Determine and Plan daily priorities
• Recognize equipment problems, need for maintenance or repairs or shortages in supplies
Communication and Interpersonal Skills:
• You have strong oral communication skills to convey information about the use, care and storage of cleaning agents and solvents
• You have written communication skills to maintain accurate records of the use of cleaning materials and other supplies
• You have interpersonal skills to increase staff and inmate awareness of the need for caution on wet floors and around ladders or other obstructions where cleaning is taking place
