About the job

You will:

• administer fish and wildlife and species at risk license and permit processes
• participate in work program activities including preparing recommendations, organizing and implementing field projects, controlling budget expenditures and monitor progress and results of projects
• provide technical expertise and group leadership through consultation, negotiations, and conflict resolution
• prepare and implement compliance plans, conduct field inspections and investigations
• support long range resource management planning teams by providing technical expertise
• communicate fish and wildlife program information to the public, clients, partners, resource industries and Aboriginal peoples
• participate in the delivery of other district resource management programs (e.g. Lands and Waters, Aggregates)

What you bring to the team

Mandatory requirement:

• You possess a class G valid driver's license or equivalent as recognized by the Province of Ontario, to travel to rural and remote sites.

Fish and wildlife expertise and technical knowledge:

• You have strong working knowledge of fish and wildlife legislation including the Endangered Species Act and Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act and related regulations, policies, procedures and guidelines, in order to review and process licences, authorizations and permits and to ensure resource operations are in compliance with ecological sustainability standards and legal requirements.
• You have expertise and technical knowledge of fish and wildlife program and project activities in order to participate in resource management planning processes, plan, organize and conduct field projects and programs and provide technical leadership, advice and training to staff, resource industries, clients, interest groups and the public.
• You have working knowledge of personal computers/software including word processing, database, presentation, electronic mail, internet, spreadsheet and GIS applications to input, retrieve and summarize data; prepare correspondence, legislative approvals and reports; prepare budgets and track expenditures and use internet and email.
• You have knowledge of other resource management programs (e.g. Lands and Waters, Aggregates, Forestry) and experience participating in the delivery of these programs.

Planning and problem-solving skills:

• You have demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills to technically review, analyze and present data and evaluate information from staff and resource industries in order to confirm adherence to legislation/policy, identify resource sustainability and/or compliance issues and recommend management, allocation and compliance actions.
• You have strong planning and coordinating skills to plan, lead and coordinate fish and wildlife programs/projects and to ensure the timely review, assessment, approval and audit of ministry, individual/business and agency projects, initiatives, proposals, licences, permits and plans requiring the coordination of several processes/projects occurring at the same time.

Communication and interpersonal skills:

• You have strong interpersonal skills to participate in briefings and meetings and interact with the public, staff, resource users and clients in order to respond to inquiries and to promote understanding and discuss sensitive resource decisions/issues.
• You possess good communication skills to participate in briefings and to prepare written products, reports, correspondence and presentations.
