About the job
As a member of the Quetico Provincial Park team, under the general supervision of the Park Superintendent, you will:
• operate the John B. Ridley Research Library at the Quetico Provincial Park Heritage Pavilion visitor center
• provide GIS support to backcountry park operations throughout the NW zone of Ontario parks
• perform and maintain social media duties to support partnerships and the marketing of parks in Northwestern Ontario
• support education, research and planning programs in the park through the maintenance of accurate and easily retrievable information
• evaluate and analyze research information to meet clients' needs and to support Ministry decision making, policy and program development
What you bring to the team
Library sciences knowledge:
• knowledge of archiving, information management and indexing practices and methods to provide services by researching, cataloguing, or indexing a variety of information, print and data sources
• knowledge of a wide range of electronic resources and print materials dealing with archaeological, environmental, and policy research; internet; and other electronic resources
Technical knowledge:
• knowledge of cartographic principles, to create map products for park operations and for planning and marketing projects
• knowledge on the operation of a GPS device and maintaining Geographic Information Systems
• knowledge of wilderness travel skills and techniques
Analytical skills:
• analytical skills to select from various and diverse electronic/print information resources, assess/synthesize their content, and evaluate their potential usefulness
• evaluation and planning skills to develop and maintain internal databases in the unit, organize long term mapping projects and maintain campsite, infrastructure and portage inventories
• resource management skills to determine the needs and requirements to meet the research needs of ministry staff
Communication skills:
• innovative and creative writing skills to maintain engaging social media content in support of Northwest Zone Park initiatives and partnerships
• ability to support partnership activities between Northwest Zone Parks and first Nation's, ENGO's and other groups and stakeholders
Computer proficiency:
• experienced and proficient using common office productivity software such as word processors, spreadsheets, databases, email and internet, as well as social media applications, ArcMap and photo/video editing software
