What can I expect to do in this role?

The WSIB's Work Transition Branch is a key partner in the organization's strategic transformation initiatives with a focus on on-site support for workers and employers in facilitating a return to work with the goal of maintaining the employment relationship with the injury employer.

This is a rewarding opportunity which plays a significant role in getting injured workers back to meaningful employment within Ontario and achieving the best possible recovery outcome through activity. Work Transition Specialists spend two days in the office and three days per week on the road focusing on meeting with Workplace Parties to identify opportunities and obstacles to return to work, to facilitate discussion on accommodation solutions and to negotiate progressive Return to Work plans.

We are looking for individuals who thrive in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment where they can use their analytical, creative and problem solving skills to create and implement work transition plans.

Major Responsibilities:

• Assist workers, employers and WSIB Case Managers to facilitate work transition and case resolution at the workplace
• Use of assessment where required to identify options for return to work with the incident employer or identify suitable occupation that is available in the labour market
• Create a work transition plan and support the injured worker in fulfilling the plan
• Provide expert advice, direction, vocational rehabilitation counseling and support to workers and employers
• Educating workers and employers on their responsibilities, obligations and the impact of the WSI act and related WSIB policies

How do I qualify?

Job Requirements:

• University completion at an undergraduate level in a vocational rehabilitation related discipline and working towards completing certification as a Registered Rehabilitation Professional (RRP) and Certified Vocational Professional (CVP)
• Two years direct experience using vocational assessment tools and techniques to assess job skills, create vocational goals and plans and to resolve factors impacting Return to Work
• Knowledge and understanding of local and regional labour market conditions and trends
• Analytical, problem solving and critical thinking skills to identify solutions and make timely, responsive and accurate decisions/recommendations
• Experience in negotiating positive outcomes with work place parties
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
• Experience composing complex written documentation and computer literacy in Windows and MS Office
• Financial and basic mathematics skills to determine costs and understand financial implications of work transition plan recommendations
• Strong communications skills, both verbal and written
• Ability to manage workload and prioritize work to provide high quality customer service
