Are you an experienced communications professional with an interest in science? Here's your chance to apply your skills and knowledge of communication and information transfer techniques to an exciting position with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry.

The Science and Research Branch is looking to recruit two permanent Information Officer positions: 1 in Peterborough and 1 in Sault Ste. Marie.

What can I expect to do in this role?

You will work in a team environment to provide:

• writing, editing, and technical guidance for the delivery of a wide range of communications and science transfer products and services
• communications leadership, expertise and advice to Branch staff and managers and other MNRF colleagues
• support for the development, implementation, and evaluation of the Branch's science communication strategies
• expertise for maintenance of the Branch's internet and intranet web sites

How do I qualify?

Mandatory requirements:

• This position requires a minimum valid Class G Driver's Licence or equivalent as recognized by the Province of Ontario.
• You have the ability to travel to remote locations with overnight stays.

Knowledge:

You have:
• Excellent understanding of communications and information transfer techniques to develop effective client-focused communications and information transfer media and services.
• Thorough knowledge of the English language, writing and editing techniques, social media, and the publishing process.
• Advanced knowledge of desktop publishing, web design, and the development of diverse communications products.
• Good knowledge of programs, operations and services as they relate to science and research initiatives to provide an effective communications strategy and deliver products that are relevant, timely and of high quality.

Communication skills:

You have:
• Excellent oral and written communications skills to prepare and/or assist in the preparation of science communications, including publications/reports, displays, presentations, newsletters, briefing notes, fact sheets, and media releases.
• Advanced writing skills to develop and edit scientific information for a variety of audiences ranging from senior management and science staff to stakeholders and the general public.
• Creativity, initiative, and judgment to anticipate and resolve communications challenges, choose appropriate communications methods, and deliver advice, guidance and recommendations.

Computer skills:

You have:
• Extensive experience using word processing and desktop publishing software to produce print and web-based communication products.

Organizational skills:

You have:
• Strong planning and organizational skills to set priorities, organize tasks, and meet tight timelines in a fast-paced environment.
• The ability to design, develop, and implement or facilitate projects from start to finish.

Leadership skills:

You have:
• Demonstrated leadership experience to work effectively with a diverse client group, provide communications guidance and training, and organize and carry out projects to completion.
