What can I expect to do in this role?

• To assist lands and waters staff in the issuance of local allocations, permits and authorizations, and in supporting the delivery of resource monitoring, inspections, compliance and audit activities for the district lands and waters resource management program.
• To assist in the inspection and monitoring of activities authorized on Crown land such as work permits
• To assist with communication of lands and waters program information to both internal and external clients and for resource management inquiries
• To assists with work planning for the lands and waters program.
• To assist with the review of requests for dispositions of Crown resources.
• To assist with environmental assessments for the disposition of Crown resources
• To assist with the preparation of Ministry documents
• To assist with and provide support to other programs as required

How do I qualify?

Knowledge:

• Broad understanding of natural resource management, including relevant legislation, associated with Crown lands and waters program to participate in licensing, permitting and inspection activities and contribute to work planning activities associated with the District Land & Waters programs;
• Knowledge of land use issues, and lands and waters operations and practices to participate in field projects by attending site inspections, compliance visits and operational audits.
• Knowledge of worker responsibility as outlined in the OH&S Act.

Analytical and Research Skills:

• Analytical and problem solving skills to review, analyze and evaluate Ministry data and information from staff and stakeholders to determine application of legislation/policy and contributing to problem resolution options.

Communication and interpersonal Skills:

• Good verbal and written communication skills, including facilitation skills to assist in preparation for or participate in stakeholder meetings or public consultation processes or in responding to public inquiries.
• Good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment to interact with staff, members of industry, stakeholder groups, resource users and the general public.

Planning and Coordination Skills:

• Planning, coordination and time management skills to plan, coordinate or participate in individual and team projects, initiatives, proposals, licenses and permits and on concurrent timelines.

Computer Skills:

• Working knowledge of computer software packages including MS-Excel, MS Word, MS Access, Power Point, and GIS;

Eligibility:

• Valid Class “G” Driver's License and ability to travel occasionally to locations throughout Ontario
• Proof of eligibility to work in Canada;
• Has graduated or will graduate from an approved or legally authorized college or university with a degree, postgraduate certificate or diploma within the last four years;
• Candidates are only eligible to participate in one MNRF 18-month placement and must not have participated in the MNRF internship program in the past.
