About the job
In this role you will:
• provide expert advisory and assessment support to the Assistant Deputy Minister
• provide leadership across the Division on scientific matters which support policy and program decision making
• analyze and resolve issues using evidence in science, social, economic, monitoring and traditional environmental knowledge
• lead the development, implementation and introduction of Division standards and guidelines
• prepare highly complex scientific and technical documents, reports, briefings and related products
What you bring to the team
Technical Skills:
• You can interpret and provide strategic direction with environmental policies, programs, legislation and regulations that impact on climate change, air, water and land quality and emerging trends and technologies in the field of environmental sciences at the national and international levels
• You have the ability to apply theories, principles and methodologies in the such sciences as environmental, biological; chemical and physical sciences; applied environmental sciences and earth sciences; urban and land studies and various disciplines, including, air, water, waste, greenhouse gases, land use, noise and biodiversity. Climate Change, renewable energy, toxicology, water resources, modeling, industrial pollution controls to provide expert advisory and assessment support on scientific matters and to assess viability and soundness of recommendations made across the division/ministry.
Communication Skills:
• You have strong oral and written communication, and presentation skills for effective communication across the division, ministry and with senior officials, stakeholders and the regulated community with varying degrees of scientific knowledge
• You have a strong ability to translate and articulate complex scientific content into usable, understood and value added products for diverse audiences
Project Management Skills:
• You have knowledge of project management methods and best practices to lead a range of concurrent project initiatives
• You can provide leadership to multidisciplinary teams including oversight and assignment of activities, project direction and outcomes
Analytical and Problem Solving Skills:
• You can apply risk assessment and risk management principles to make recommendations on complex scientific issues impacting the ministry and the environment.
• You have the ability to provide leadership to Directors and subject matter experts in the resolution of issues or concerns with scientific findings, environmental risks, and suitability of new policy or regulatory initiatives
Computer Skills:
• You have computer skills, such as word processing and the use of spreadsheets and presentation packages to conduct analysis, prepare reports and presentations
