About the job
In this role, you will:
• oversee the development of policies and strategies and the implementation of regulatory initiatives related to conservation and energy efficiency
• act as technical expert and assess efficiency standards of existing and emerging energy end-use technologies and their potential impact on energy conservation and climate change
• provide policy or program recommendations based on research and analysis of complex issues in the energy sector
• promote and encourage energy efficiency through development of enhanced codes and standards and efficient use of energy in Ontario
• serve as a technical expert and liaison between the Ministry, internal and external stakeholders and industry associations
What you bring to the team
Industry and Issues Knowledge:
• You have knowledge of the energy efficiency industry and issues, including regulations, codes, standards and market rules governing the Ontario energy sector.
• You have solid knowledge of current and emerging energy efficiency standards, trends and technologies, and innovative practices in implementing energy efficiency to support energy conservation and climate change goals.
• You have knowledge of the economic, environmental, legal and political issues influencing policy development in the energy sector.
• You are able to analyse, interpret and apply legislation, regulations, codes and standards governing the energy sector and assess their impact on energy conservation and greenhouse gas emissions reductions.
Policy development and evaluation skills:
• You have knowledge of policy development principles and techniques.
• You have knowledge of legislation and regulation development processes to develop and implement the government's policy initiatives.
Research and analysis skills:
• You have experience and knowledge of research techniques to conduct a variety of research studies: environment scans, technical data analysis, trend analysis, economic/financial analysis, identification of best practices, etc.
• You are able to assess information and evaluate potential impacts, issues and risks.
Communication and relationship management skills:
• You have demonstrated the ability to provide advice and communicate information on complex technical issues to senior management, external stakeholders, and a variety of audiences.
• You have demonstrated the ability to develop a variety of materials (e.g. reports, briefing materials, outreach materials, etc.).
• You have relationship management skills to lead teams and build and foster networks with other jurisdictions and industry stakeholders.
Policy development and evaluation skills:
• You have knowledge of policy development principles and techniques.
• You have knowledge of legislation and regulation development processes to develop and implement the government's policy initiatives.
