Are you interested in joining a team of enthusiastic individuals where you will promote and market Ontario as a tourism destination to travellers visiting Ontario?
The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport, Ontario Tourism Marketing Partnership Corporation is developing a roster of qualified individuals who will be considered for contract employment as Assistant Travel Counsellors in the Ontario Travel Information Centres across Ontario.
The Assistant Travel Counsellors must be available on call to work shift work/evenings, weekends/holidays from October to April on an “as-needed” basis.
Note: This position will be on an 'as required' basis with no guarantee of the number of hours worked - 0 to 36.25 per week.
The locations are spread across Ontario and the successful candidates may work on-call at any of the following available locations:

• St. Catharines - 251 York Road, , Niagara-on-the-Lake, L0S 1J0

About the job
In this position you will
• respond to inquiries in person, by telephone and in writing to customers and clients
• research information from a variety of sources
• assist in planning and developing travel itineraries
• assist with maintenance of reference files, inventory stocking, and monitoring
• assist with the sale of attraction passes, tickets, accommodation and merchandise
What you bring to the team
Mandatory requirements
• You must be available to work irregular on-call hours from 0 to 36.25 hours a week with NO guarantee of hours.
• You must be able to work shift work, week-ends and holidays.
Tourism Knowledge:
• Knowledge of and experience in the promotion of Ontario's tourism industry products, agencies, attractions and destinations
• Knowledge of provincial tourism industry
• Demonstrated knowledge of computer software applications and internet resources to research travel information
Communication and Interpersonal skills:
• Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills to provide information to clients and customers verbally and in writing
• Proven written skills to assist with promoting Ontario as an attractive travel destination and to provide client responses
Counselling and Customer Service Skills:
• Travel counselling skills to assist clients with travel planning and counselling
• Customer service skills to greet clients
• Good judgment and analytical skills to identify the nature of the client inquiry and provide appropriate response
Organizational and Planning Skills:
• Organizational skills to manage competing work demands and timelines
• Demonstrated ability to work as a team member in a high pressure environment
• Ability to create travel plans/itineraries
Retail Sales Skills:
• Experience in a retail environment would be an asset
• Cash handling skills to take payments
