About the job

• coordinate consistent delivery of wildlife management programs across the northeast region
• lead the transfer, interpretation and implementation of provincial and regional legislation, policies, programs, standards, and guidelines as related to the management of wildlife in the northeast region
• participate in the review and development of provincial and regional natural resources policies, legislation, programs, standards and guidelines
• provide strategic guidance, leadership and advice in resolving wildlife management and allocation issues at a regional/district level
• provide expertise and advice to management on the development and management of review and planning processes
• prepare technical reports, briefing notes, correspondence and presentation materials
• liaise with ministry corporate policy areas and various external client groups and agencies in relation to wildlife program delivery.

What you bring to the team


Technical knowledge and expertise:

• You have in depth knowledge and expertise of the theory, principles and practices of biology as related to wildlife management.
• You have thorough knowledge of government strategic direction, resource management policies and resource legislation (e.g. Fish and
Wildlife Conservation Act, Fisheries Act and Regulations, Canadian Wildlife Act, Environmental Assessment Act, Lakes and Rivers Improvement Act,
Green Energy Act, Crown Forest Sustainability Act, Species at Risk Act).

Communication skills:

You have superior written communication skills to prepare briefing notes, Minister's letters and technical reports.
• You have well developed communication skills to provide advice, guidance and recommendations and input into policies, programs, standards and guidelines with a diverse array of organizations/groups with opposing opinions/interests.
• You have experience making presentations and the ability to provide media interviews.

Interpersonal and relationship management skills:

• You have strong interpersonal, communication and relationship management skills to develop and maintain effective relationships with clients, federal/provincial agencies, natural resource stakeholders, environmental non-government agencies and partners (e.g. Federation of Ontario Naturalists, Nature Conservancy of Canada, Aboriginal communities) public, media and participate on a number of provincial, regional and/or inter-agency committees and working groups.
• You have proven facilitation and conflict resolution skills to effectively identify various perspectives, determine areas of common agreement and develop/gain support from a variety of partners, clients and ministry staff.

Project management and organizational skills:

• You have solid project management skills to organize and complete complex projects within assigned timelines.
• You can coordinate and organize the development and approval of planning processes.

Analytical and problem-solving skills:

• You have proven analytical skills to review literature and scientific reports and bring forward information to contribute to objective and priority setting and work planning.
• You are able to respond to issues and provide recommendations and options to resolve complex issues.
• You have demonstrated skills with considering varied interests and gaining consensus when working with planning teams.

Computer skills:

• You have highly developed knowledge and skills working with computer-based analytical, data management and modelling techniques and tools to analyze biological/resource management information.
• You are proficient with personal computers, internet and a variety of word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software to prepare briefing materials, correspondence, reports, etc.
