Are you a spiritual leader who is interested in cultivating a worshipping community within an institution by maintaining a comprehensive multicultural chaplaincy program for youth offenders, their families and staff? Then bring your specialized skills to this dynamic environment within the Cecil Facer Youth Centre where you will provide spiritual and religious care with the Youth Centre, and to youth as they re-enter the community.

What can I expect to do in this role?

In this position, you will:

• Coordinate and sustain the community faith group involvement of residents within the youth centre and as they are released back into the community
• Assess a diverse range of religious and spiritual needs and rights of youth and resolve requests with youth, staff and facility administration
• Provide counselling and crisis intervention for youth and staff on a variety of issues, providing referrals as needed
• Provide advice, training and recommendations to staff and management regarding chaplaincy policy and procedures
• Prepare and submit spiritual and religious care budgets

How do I qualify?


• You have ordination as a clergyman/clergywoman by a recognized ecclesiastical body.
• You have Canadian Multifaith Federation's (formerly, Ontario Multifaith Council) Spiritual and Religious Care Certification.

Technical Knowledge:

• You have proven knowledge of a range of faith group practices and beliefs, and issues, to conduct multi-faith services, assess spiritual and religious needs and coordinate and develop programs.
• You have the ability to obtain knowledge of the operation of a youth facility and related legislation (e.g. Ministry of Children and Youth Services Act, Criminal Code of Canada, and Youth Criminal Justice Act).
• You have experience operating within the rights, obligations, and limitations for the provision of care for youth.
• You have demonstrated knowledge of counselling, crisis intervention and human behaviour to provide guidance to staff, youth, and their families.

Leadership Skills:

• You have the ability to guide and train spiritual and religious care visitors and students on secure setting environment.
• You have experience developing and sustaining a worshipping community and coordinating, monitoring and evaluating all religious and spiritual activities.

Communication Skills:

• You have experience using tact when providing pastoral services to youth, their families, and staff.
• You have proven experience developing and maintaining good relationships with community faith groups/volunteers and their leaders to develop community based programs.

Analytical and Organizational Skills:

• You have analytical and problem-solving skills to assess a diverse range of religious and spiritual needs and rights of youth and resolve requests with youth, staff, and facility administration.
• You have organizational skills to plan, organize, and implement religious services and spiritual care programs.
