Consider joining the Health Services I&IT Cluster, Community Care Information Management Branch where you will provide expert advice, strategic direction and guidance for new projects, data management techniques and technologies, contingency planning and day-to-day activities in a 24 hours a day, 7 days a week environment.

What can I expect to do in this role?

As a Senior Database Administrator, you will:

• maintain and monitor a number of SQL Server databases in large multi-tenant environments
• design, build and configure SQL Server clusters
• ensure existing databases meet performance requirements
• ensure that all deployed databases are secure and that appropriate security and auditing controls are in place to meet security and privacy requirements
• provide database administration technical expertise during design and architecture phases of new solutions
• lead and design solutions for SQL Server upgrades
• plan, manage and coordinate implementation of technically advanced complex systems
• provide 7X24 support to resolve complex and unique database management issues under extreme time constraints with severe operational consequences
• provide expert support and guidance to production database systems and clients by overseeing the deployment and evaluation of complex SQL Server databases
• provide support and maintenance of Oracle databases in Linux based environments
• carry out complex/specialized systems analysis and design
• provide assistance in the development, evaluation and recommendation of Request for Proposals/Bids
• direct and conduct a wide variety of research into emerging technologies

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

• Job requires on-call, standby and occasional call-back on a 24 hour, 7 days a week basis.

Technical Knowledge and Skills:

• you have extensive expertise and knowledge of data management and state-of-the-art information architecture theory, principles and techniques related to SQL Server and Oracle databases
• you have proven experience taking system backups and restoring backups and data migration processes and writing SQL scripts.
• you can demonstrate experience with SQL Server and Oracle database patching and audit logs monitoring
• you have extensive knowledge of database development methodologies, programming languages, highly complex database concepts, data types, data dictionaries, storage and retrieval techniques
• you have specialized knowledge of database testing and implementation methods and practices

Analytical, Problem-Solving and Evaluative Skills:

• you can determine implications of various database design alternatives by conducting comprehensive research and developing new approaches
• you can evaluate, develop and prioritize project plans, data management structures and overall database design requirements and standards
• you can coordinate design, development and testing of databases and related state-of-the-art utilities
• you can evaluate and recommend new or additional hardware/software requirements for new database systems and develop and evaluate Requests for Proposals/Bids
• you can develop complex query programs to extract information and reports from production and test databases

Communication and Interpersonal Skills:

• you can provide recommendations and clarifications to clients regarding the implications of different database design alternatives
• you can provide advice to clients regarding the efficient use of databases and explain database design/development process and review technical considerations with clients and project teams
• you can present formal and informal training sessions to various divisional staff
• you can make presentations to senior management on potential application of new data management technologies
• you have written communication skills to prepare systems documentation, document standards and procedures, develop training materials and prepare reports on evaluations and recommendations
• you have experience writing and presenting technical business cases and use cases to Sr. Management and clients/stakeholers
• you can discuss data management requirements with application developers and promote feasibility and advantages/disadvantages of various options with clients

Other Essential Skills:

• you have the ability to interpret legislation such as the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations
• you have knowledge of technical training and education techniques
