Precinct Properties Branch (PPB) is responsible for all renovation/restoration projects, mechanical and electrical upgrades, repairs and the day-to-day maintenance of Ontario's historic Legislative Building and grounds. In addition, PPB also provides housekeeping, moving and setup, plus signage services for Assembly staff on the first three floors of the Whitney Block.

PPB is comprised of 3 areas - Capital Projects, Operations and Maintenance and Administrative Operations. The Technical Specialist and Trades Supervisor, with their staff of 4 tradespeople, operate as part of the Operations and Maintenance team, also consisting of Housekeeping and Moving and Setup.

TO SUPPORT OUR COMMUNITY
• You will provide leadership and direction to a team of four (4) tradespeople who specialize in plumbing, electrical, mechanical and carpentry
• You will be responsible for utilizing your expertise in building systems (mechanical, electrical, life safety, etc.) to diagnose and implement the repairs for day to day and long term equipment issues
• You will examine existing site conditions and recommend strategies for improvement over long term phased projects
• You will be responsible for the Building Automation System and preventative/scheduled maintenance
• You will review consultants' proposed solutions and technical specifications for identified capital projects and make recommendations on designs and specifications to ensure all new work is integrated with overall implementation strategy of building improvements and is within allocated budget
• You will prepare cost estimates for proposed work and ensure proposed solutions are within budget allocation
• You will manage various unit price contractors and monitor construction/inspection activities on an ongoing basis, including the process for contract tenders and renewals
• You will ensure that all work is completed and documented in accordance with terms and conditions set out within contracts and that all applicable codes and regulations are followed
• You will manage external consultants and contractors while ensuring that all work is completed in accordance with all applicable code and safety legislation
• You will participate in the development of the annual budget by providing input on capital planning and non-recurring projects including proposed project descriptions and budget estimates

What you bring to the team


DEMONSTRATING YOUR EXCELLENCE

• You possess a college diploma or trade certificate after apprenticeship with a minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience, preferably in a Heritage building
• You possess strong working knowledge of relevant legislation including Electrical Code, Fire Code, Ontario Building Code
• You have experience in large building maintenance and have strong knowledge of building operations and troubleshooting building systems with the capacity to provide expert advice regarding building systems
• You have knowledge of the maintenance and operation of building automation and fire life safety systems
• You have the ability to read mechanical and electrical plans, shop drawings and diagrams and possess working knowledge of various building systems
• Experience in managing maintenance and construction projects
• You possess proven management skills and have the ability to effectively communicate and interact with a diverse group of internal and external contacts on a daily basis, including staff at all levels within the Assembly
