What can I expect to do in this role?

Job Summary:

Manage, maintain and optimize ITC environments including data, information and software tools. Design, develop and implement Enterprise Warehouse (such as EIW and EDW) and internal Data De-Identification components based on abstract user requirements; create complex computer programs to extract/manipulate data using Enterprise Warehouses, its datamarts, Data Stage ETL and other data sources in response to data requests from users including validating data to ensure accuracy, quality and relationships to other data entities and presenting data in appropriate format.

Provide technical and business advice and expertise on Enterprise Warehouses and Data De-Identification design and Data Warehouse and Data De-Identification Framework development best practices. Lead and/or participate in ITC system development projects, track milestones and ensure timely completion.

Major Responsibilities:

1. Analyze abstract user requirements and create computer programs using advanced programming skills in response to internal and external requests for data using Enterprise Warehouses, their related datamarts, and other data sources including for de-identification purposes. This includes understanding the abstract business needs and translating needs into specific data elements by identifying, selecting, extracting and manipulating the appropriate data, validating data to ensure accuracy, quality and relationships to other data entities and selecting the appropriate format to present data, perform data sensitivity analysis.

2. Oversee and/or provide on-call support for ITC operations and testing teams (e.g. monthly update of datamarts, related systems and Business Intelligence (BI) deliverables, testing environments) to ensure the delivery of timely, accurate, reliable and protected data to WSIB business users. This includes maintaining appropriate documentation of system and processes, reviewing and analyzing ITC operations to identify any potential problems, their impacts and associated risks, and providing recommendations to management to improve the efficiency and reliability of the ITC operations.

3. Optimize the performance of Enterprise Warehouse systems (such as ReportNet packages, Extract Transform and Load (ETL) programs, queries) and Data Stage ETL based De-Identification Framework by identifying inefficiencies with the systems and processes, collaborating with Database Administrator (DBA) and other BTS technical staff to develop solutions to improve system performance, making recommendations to management and implementing approved changes to the design and maintenance of the Enterprise Warehouse and Data De-Identification systems and related tools.

4. Manage and maintain the BI and/or ETL environments by monitoring their performance to ensure functionality, integrity and security of the environments and compliance with BTS information security and change management processes. Identify and troubleshoot problems as they arise which may involve interacting with other areas within BTS for resolution. Forecast computer system resource requirements, such as CPU (central processing unit), memory, disk space and recommending changes to the design, maintenance of the Enterprise Warehouses, its applications and tools.

5. Design and build Enterprise Warehouse and Data De-Identification components based on user requirements and by applying appropriate system development methodology. This includes gathering and analyzing user requirements, analyzing data systems, data modeling, designing ETL and/or BI programs, testing programs by developing test criteria, reviewing test results; maintaining metadata consistency.

6. Contribute to the development and implementation of the architectural strategy for Enterprise Warehouse and Data De-Identification systems by providing technical and business advice and expertise on Data Warehouse and De-Identification Framework development best practices. Collaborate with the Architects to evaluate and select data warehouse and data de-identification tools (e.g. BI, ETL) by developing and testing the evaluation criteria, and making recommendation on selection to requesting parties.

7. Lead and/or participate in ITC system development projects varying in scope and complexity by establishing/developing project plans, monitoring progress and providing technical and business expertise during the various project phases (e.g. planning, designing, testing and implementation) to ensure timely project completion within the allocated budget. Assist ITC staff with the design, development, enhancement and maintenance of the ITC application systems.

8. Perform other related duties as assigned or required.

• Total of 9 years' experience
• 6 years prior experience in information management.
