What can I expect to do in this role?

Job Summary:

The WSIB's Work Transition Branch is a key partner in the organization's strategic transformation initiatives and has played a key role in improving return to work outcomes for Ontarians who have been injured at work. The program focuses on on-site support for workers and employers to help facilitate a return to work with the goal of maintaining the employment relationship with the injury employer.

This is a rewarding opportunity which plays a significant role in getting injured workers back to meaningful employment within Ontario and achieving the best possible recovery outcome through activity. Work Transition Specialists spend one day in the office and four days per week in the field meeting with Workplace Parties to identify opportunities and obstacles to return to work, to facilitate discussion on accommodation solutions and to negotiate progressive Return to Work plans; meetings will also take place at training facilities and job placement organizations.
We are looking for individuals who thrive in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment where they can use their analytical, creative and problem solving skills to create and implement work transition plans.

Major Responsibilities:

• Assist workers, employers and WSIB Case Managers to facilitate work transition and case resolution at the workplace
• Use of vocational and/or functional assessments where required to identify options for return to work with the incident employer or identify a suitable occupation that is available in the labour market
• Create a work transition plan in collaboration with the worker and employer and support the injured worker in fulfilling the plan
• Provide expert advice, direction, vocational rehabilitation counseling and support to workers and employers
• Educate workers and employers on their responsibilities, obligations and the impact of the WSI act and related WSIB policies

How do I qualify?

Job Requirements:

• Undergraduate University degree in a vocational rehabilitation related discipline and working towards completing certification as a Registered Rehabilitation Professional (RRP) and Certified Vocational Professional (CVP)
• One year direct experience using vocational assessment tools and techniques to assess job skills, create vocational goals and plans and to resolve factors impacting Return to Work
• Knowledge and understanding of local and regional labour market conditions and trends
• Analytical, problem solving and critical thinking skills to identify solutions and make timely, responsive and accurate decisions/recommendations
• Experience in negotiating positive outcomes with work place parties
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
• Experience composing complex written documentation and computer literacy in Windows and MS Office
• Financial and basic mathematics skills to determine costs and understand financial implications of work transition plan recommendations
• Strong communications skills, both verbal and written
• Ability to manage workload and prioritize work to provide high quality customer service

Working Conditions:

• Travel within assigned geographic area via car or other appropriate mode of transportation with one to two days per week in assigned office
• Work Transition Specialists travel to a variety of workplaces and training facilities to conduct meetings
• Employees are provided with equipment to work offsite (laptop and external plug in devices, cellular phone)
