About the job

Job Summary:

Investigate, analyze, classify, respond and advise on security incidents and matters pertaining to the Threats Protocol including: disruptive behaviour, threats, criminal harassment and violence, and work with 3rd party security providers to protect the overall security and safety of WSIB staff and property.

Provide continuous and accurate day-to-day administration and operation of WSIB Security Incidents, Employee Security Screening Program, Contractor Security Screening Program and recommend and provide updates to post orders, policies, procedures and other branch programs and initiatives in compliance with privacy and policy requirements.

Support the Corporate Security Branch in the planning, design, and implementation of security processes and procedures, and ensure the proper application and administration of WSIB security policies and security industry best practices.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

1. Investigate, analyze, classify, respond and advise on security incidents and matters pertaining to the Threats Protocol including: disruptive behaviour, threats, criminal harassment and violence:


• Liaise with 3rd party security services and provide in-depth and accurate classification and reporting of security incidents and maintain an enterprise-wide security incident database for incidents such as threats, violence, criminal harassment, abusive behaviour, facilities issues, medical emergencies, protests and vandalism etc.
• Obtain details and provide preliminary investigative analysis and evidence preparation to the Corporate Security Manager for instances relating to threats, abusive behaviour, criminal harassment and violence.
• Create and maintain warning, restriction and anonymous Security Desk files on disruptive clients, employers, representatives and others, in compliance with the Threats Protocol and applicable retention policies.
• Prepare restriction, no-trespass to property and warning letters as required based on investigation of incident.
• Update staff on client and employer warning and restrictions and maintain the disruptive codes in ACES.
• Provide comprehensive reports on security incidents, current trend analysis, and warning and restricted clients.
• Provide advice to staff on matters pertaining to the Threats Protocol and promote awareness and program procedures.

2. Administration and operation of Corporate Security Branch initiatives such as the Employee Security Screening Program and Contractor Security Screening Program:

• Liaison with HR, internal/external stakeholders and 3rd party security services on clearance enquiries, general issues and procedures.
• Prepare and maintain employee screening files, clearance letters and databases for WSIB employees.
• Participate in RFP of contract services and support the planning, design and or re-design of handling procedures within the employee and contractor programs.
• Identify and initiate subsequent security screenings in accordance with WSIB policies.
• Track, update, maintain and report on the emergency notification devices for field staff program.

3. Support the Corporate Security Branch in the plan, design, implementation and updates for security processes and procedures, and ensure the proper application and administration of:

• Contract management e.g. orders, confirmation of invoicing;
• Threats Protocol:
• Emergency notification devices for field staff;
• Security Awareness programs for staff;
• Employee and Contractor security screening programs;
• Security policies, procedures and post orders;
• Other emerging branch initiatives e.g. threat risk assessments

4. Provide professional advice and support to team members, peers, WSIB offices, departments, internal and external stakeholders and 3rd party security contractors while ensuring best practice research and WSIB policies have been considered.

5. Develop and maintain communication linkages and relationships both internally with all WSIB divisions provincial wide and externally with client groups such as Fair Practices, workers, employers and their legal/non legal representatives, police and other emergency response professionals, etc.

Job Requirements:

1. Education (Level and Specialty / Discipline):

• Post-Secondary Diploma

2. Experience (Years of Related Experience and Type of Experience):

• 3-5 years in the private security field plus administrative experience

3. Technical or Professional Qualifications or Certifications/Designations:

• Communications skills to present complex and/or sensitive information to individuals or groups of people, conduct presentations on workplace violence and protocols; proficiency in report writing to prepare comprehensive and concise reports involving attention to detail and accuracy of information.
• Knowledge of the Criminal Code of Canada and No Trespass to Property Act to understand the laws and relationships between WSIB employees, workers and employers re: offences, disruptive behaviour, or other security issues. Strong understanding of the WSIB Threats Protocol to provide expert advice and/or direction on actions to be taken.

As a precondition of employment, the WSIB will require a prospective candidate to undergo a criminal records name check prior to or at any time following hire.
