We are seeking two professional maintenance mechanics to perform various maintenance and repair duties at the Ontario Police College as well as routine vehicle maintenance and shipping/receiving functions at the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services.

What can I expect to do in this role?

•Perform welding and soldering (regular and silver) on various items, as required.
•Assist in the erection, alteration, installation and repair of wooden structures using wood and similar materials, involving cutting, trimming, painting, varnishing and refinishing.
•Repair doors, windows, beds, cabinets, locks and other items, as required.
•Fabricate and install various sheet metal items such as duct work and thermostat covers.
•Repair and maintain the firing range, i.e., cables, oscillating equipment, target holders, etc
•Perform routine cleaning of firing ranges, in accordance with the Ontario Police College Lead Program.
•Perform painting in various areas of the College
•Assist the garage mechanic, as required.
•Maintain the Administration fleet of vehicles.
•Deliver and pick up parcels and other items, including the daily mail.
•Receive incoming packages and ships outgoing packages.
•Perform other duties, as assigned.

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

•Possession of a Class G Drivers Licence.
•Must be able to pass an OPP background security investigation.

Technical Knowledge

•Knowledge of locks, electrical systems, sheet metal work, welding, carpentry and painting to perform maintenance and repair duties at the Ontario Police College facility and its firing ranges.
•Knowledge of and skill in the use of power and hand-working carpentry tools to assist in erecting, altering, installing and repairing wooden structures.
•Knowledge of basic vehicle maintenance to assist in routine maintenance of Ontario Police College vehicles and the Administration fleet of vehicles.

Interpersonal and Communication Skills

•You have demonstrated oral communication skills in order to obtain clarification and understanding of requirements for maintenance and repair work from supervisor or other staff.

Problem Solving Skills

•You can select appropriate methods of repair to perform maintenance and repair work.
•You can determine appropriate tools and equipment to use in performing repairs.
