The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) is committed to protecting and managing the province's natural resources, and to do this, we need individuals who possess the drive and leadership qualities to deliver the ministry's enforcement program.

NOTE: This competition may be used to fill other Area Enforcement Manager positions, across the province, within the next 12 months.

About the job

In this challenging role you will:

• plan, coordinate and manage the development and delivery of a district-wide integrated risk-based enforcement program
• provide leadership and advice to direct reports, other MNRF staff and managers on the development and delivery of a broad-based compliance program
• undertake community liaison activities to help ensure public understanding and adherence to resource legislation
• serve as a member of the local MNRF management team

What you bring to the team


Mandatory requirements

• You must have the ability to be appointed as a Conservation Officer, which includes:
- Ability to pass psychological/physical assessments to determine suitability and fitness for appointment.
- Possession of a valid class G driver's license or equivalent as recognized by the Province of Ontario, with ability to travel within the service area.
- Possession of, or the ability to obtain a valid first aid/CPR certificate.
- Possession of, or the ability to obtain a Pleasure Craft Operator's Card.
- Possession of, or the ability to pass the examination for an Ontario Hunting Licence.
- Ability to successfully complete the Canadian Firearms Safety Course.
- Ability to pass a 13 week training course at Ontario Police College.
• You are willing and able to undergo an enhanced level employment security screening check as part of the recruitment process.

Management and leadership skills:

• You have demonstrated management, coordination and leadership experience with a focus on operational enforcement and compliance.
• You have proven operational planning and supervisory skills in order to provide direction and motivation to staff.
• You have proven administration skills in order to organize workload, determine staffing and funding requirements, maintain financial control and manage a budget.

People skills:

• You have proven communication, presentation and interpersonal skills gained through experience working with media, senior management, stakeholders and interest groups.
• You have proven negotiation and problem-solving skills.
• You have proven experience in building relationships inside and outside the organization.
• You demonstrate excellent analytical and judgment skills.
• You can work effectively within a multi-team/program environment including representing the organization on committees and working groups.

Technical expertise:

• You have knowledge of and experience in all aspects of field enforcement, investigative techniques, evidence gathering and court procedures.
• You have the ability to interpret and apply relevant legislation and policies related to natural resource enforcement.

General skills:

• You have working knowledge of computer applications and various software applications including word processing, spreadsheets, internet and electronic mail.

    Please note that this position is under review as part of the Management Job Evaluation Plan (MJEP) Project. MJEP is a new job evaluation system for manager and non-bargaining specialist positions in the Ontario Public Service.

    Implementation of the new system may impact the classification and salary range for this position. Employees will be notified of any impact prior to implementation.
