About the job

• support the development and implementation of Healthy Schools policies and programs
• coordinate the translation of policies into programs
• consult with various stakeholders to identify policy and program issues and needs
• develop recommendations for new healthy schools policy and program directions to support student achievement and well-being in Ontario
• research information from various sources to respond to information requests

What you bring to the team


Mandatory requirement:

• You are proficient in English as well as verbal and written French at the advanced Level.

Policy and program development:

You have:
• knowledge of policy development principles/techniques and policy planning to lead the development of strategies, policy and legislative frameworks
• knowledge of and experience with program planning, design, development, implementation, coordination, monitoring and evaluation to ensure programs translate from policy, and to achieve successful implementation

Analytical and research skills:

You have:
• experience using analysis and evaluation techniques to assess the effectiveness of new/changed policies with their linked programs and provide recommendations on change
• research and project management skills to plan and conduct projects and qualitative and quantitative research studies, undertake analysis of trends, system modelling and evaluation of best practices, options, costs and impacts

Communication skills:

You have:
• oral and written communication skills to respond to issues, provide recommendations, prepare reports, options papers, briefing materials, correspondence as well as represent the ministry, and promote initiatives to internal and external stakeholders
• consultation and relationship management skills to establish key stakeholder linkages, to work cooperatively on joint education policy/program development projects, and to generate commitment from stakeholders
• presentation and persuasion skills to provide advice, gain consensus among stakeholders and explain recommendations

Specialized knowledge:

You have:
• knowledge of or ability to acquire knowledge of Ontario's elementary and secondary school systems, their curriculum issues and implementation needs, government education policy directions, and relevant legislation
