The Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Operations Division, is seeking highly experienced practitioners in the field of election management to provide support to Returning Officers regionally between and during electoral events.
Thirteen positions will provide support to the following regions:
• Central Ontario,
• East GTA,
• Eastern Ontario,
• Huron-Simcoe,
• Niagara Peninsula,
• North Toronto,
• Northern Ontario,
• Ottawa Area, Peel,
• South Toronto,
• Southern Ontario,
• Waterloo-Wellington-Halton;
• and York;
About the job
Two positions will provide overall provincial support and may be deployed throughout the province as required during an election. You will:
• Provide leadership and guidance to Returning Officers on the application and management of Elections Ontario policies, strategies and plans;
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with Returning Officers in relation to the implementation of event delivery and other objectives and priorities of electoral activities;
• Monitor and assess the quality and timeliness of electoral event organization and administration and assist Returning Officers with plans and priorities for the implementation of delivery objectives;
• Identify deficiencies and issues with business processes and practices in specific electoral districts and provide advice and recommendations to improve the quality and execution of activities;
• Provide strategic reports on the conduct of the election and the overall Returning Officer management performance to Elections Ontario HQ;
• Collaborate with Returning Officers in researching and analyzing operational issues and identifying options for potential improvements to field operational systems, processes and procedures; and
• Co-ordinate and hold regional meetings with Returning Officers and key staff, as needed.
What you bring to the team
Mandatory requirements
• Strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills;
• Superior communication and interpersonal skills;
• Strong issues management skills;
• Thorough understanding of provincial election processes and procedures;
• Thorough knowledge of election-related legislation and policies;
• Strong knowledge of the region applied for;
• 5 to 8 years' experience in conducting provincial or federal elections at the Returning Officer level;
• Ability to be responsive and flexible with workload demands;
• Strong computer skills using MS Office; and
• Must have a valid driver's license and access to a vehicle.
You are required to be available to attend orientation and training sessions, briefings, and be prepared to travel extensively throughout provincial regions as required.
