About the job

In this role, you will provide technical, field and administrative support to the Project Managers in the Project, Planning and Delivery Group. This includes coordinating and administering execution of water and wastewater facilities construction contract documents for new construction contracts, assisting with studies and condition assessments for water and wastewater facilities and gaining experience by becoming involved in capital and execution projects to be delivered by the group.

• Provide engineering support activities, such as project monitoring and reporting, including participating in site meetings and ensuring that the terms of the contract for process implementation and installation are being met.
• Support senior-level team leader or project manager (PM) by assisting in coordinating projects and attending project meetings, taking minutes, and reporting back to the PM any issues that could have an impact on the project.
• Prepare engineering memos and reports, working with a senior-level team leader to provide engineering recommendations for improving the function of a water, wastewater or biosolids plants.
• Complete calculations under the supervision of a senior engineer for sizing and selection of equipment for processes throughout a water, wastewater, biosolids treatment facility.
• Provide project support on Studies and Condition Assessment Projects as well as Capital Projects and Execution as required by team leaders and Director to respond to group project load.
• Complete conceptual reports and participates in Engineering Studies and piloting activities, with an internal group of engineers.
• Prepare engineering agreements, reviews invoices and reports prepared by consulting engineers.
• Attend site meetings, processing Monthly Payment Certificates, reviewing and providing comments on contract change orders.
• Work on our OCWA operations sites to perform field inspection of constructed works and act as site observer.
• Assist with the tender opening of new contracts by arranging time, place and participation by relevant parties.
• Assist with operational audit activities by inspecting facilities and processes and documenting and reporting findings; identifies operational process problem areas and makes recommendations for improvements.

Qualifications

Mandatory Requirements
• Licensed member of the Association of Professional Engineers of Ontario, either EIT or PEng.
• Frequent travel to OCWA's Peel operations sites – multiple job locations
• Ability to perform work on site, including site inspections, site walk throughs and contractor supervision

Knowledge
• Working knowledge and understanding of principles and practices of contemporary design and construction engineering practices and standards for construction of sophisticated water and waste water systems.
• General understanding of the main processes in a water, wastewater and biosolids treatment facility.
• PC proficiency including MS Office products and CAD software.

Skills and Abilities
• Demonstrated skills in managing work and multiple projects.
• Strong analytical, logic, practical problem solving and design/review abilities.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills to relate well to clients, contractors and operations staff.
• Good oral and writing skills to assist with writing proposal documentation, prepare user manuals and guidelines; including report writing and presentation skills
• Capacity to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
