We are seeking a highly motivated individual with strong analytical, investigative and administrative experience in a regulatory environment to provide a range of analytical, administrative and investigative services to administer the investigative, enforcement and official complaint process requirements under the Election Act, Election Finances Act and policies instituted by the Chief Electoral Officer.
About the job
Reporting to the Compliance Investigations Manager, you will:
• investigate complaints and internally identified issues pertaining to the Election Act, the Election Finances Act, and policies instituted by the Chief Electoral Officer, ensuring compliance with all related guidelines and policies;
• contact sources of complaints, respondents and potential witnesses and gather evidence from appropriate sources;
• conduct research and analysis to produce detailed reports, decision notes and briefing notes for submission to senior Elections Ontario management and the Chief Electoral Officer;
• prepare response letters to complainants, respondents and their legal counsel;
• assist in the planning, notification and execution of investigations, examinations or audits, documenting findings and contributing to the creation of reports and briefing materials;
• through research and analysis, identify unique or unusual situations to detect possible compliance risks and contraventions, and prepare case notes for discussion, identifying possible solutions and recommending appropriate action;
• monitor operational activities throughout the organization and provide advice and support upon request to other business units regarding privacy matters;
• review incoming complaints and internally initiated investigations to detect possible privacy issues, reporting any concerns to the Manager;
• support the Manager and the Director in the investigation of possible privacy breaches;
• maintain investigative files (both hard copy and electronic forms);
• provide information to members of the public and the media on the compliance aspects of the Election Act and the Election Finances Act and related guidelines; and
• provide training and supervision to staff with respect to investigations, analysis/intelligence gathering, detection and investigation of possible privacy issues.
You may be required to travel occasionally to conduct interviews with witnesses and/or take possession of items of evidence and to present oral evidence at legal proceedings.

Experience and Knowledge
• good knowledge and understanding of research, analytical, investigative and information gathering techniques and practices, administrative practices, policies and procedures and records management processes and their application to the investigative, enforcement, intelligence gathering and official complaint processes;
• good understanding of regulatory frameworks, especially the Election Act, the Election Finances Act, policies and guidelines of the Chief Electoral Officer, and other legislation applicable to Elections Ontario and/or other electoral jurisdictions;
• knowledge and understanding of the policies and practices of Elections Ontario, or other electoral jurisdictions to ensure consistent processes and provide accurate and relevant advice and information;
• excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills;
• strong analytical and organizational skills;
• knowledge of database software and information management systems and application; and
• Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
