What can I expect to do in this role?

The Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services, Ontario Provincial Police, and the Office of the Commissioner is seeking a qualified person to provide services to multiple internal clients in the design, planning, development and implementation of strategic communications to meet organizational objectives and address significant issues and events.

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

Ability to pass an OPP background security investigation.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of contemporary strategic communication, media relations and social marketing theories, trends, products, techniques and practices including issues management and the utilization of social media to identify target audiences and objectives and to provide effective communication planning and implementation that links organizational and client objectives and external environments , as well as, to positively influence behaviour through mass communication.

Knowledge and application of leadership principles, project management and presentation techniques and methods to provide guidance and counselling to lead communications teams in the development of communications strategies and delivery of products and services for OPP issues/events, and to present strategies to clients.

Knowledge of writing/editing techniques, issues management, crisis communication, researching and analytical practices and techniques to develop effective communication plans for clients and to prepare briefing notes, speaking notes, key messages and speeches for senior OPP and Ministry Managers.

Knowledge of how to guide a complex document from concept through production to final design in print and electronic versions.

Planning and organizational skills to coordinate concurrent communication activities; coordinate with various stakeholders and expedite progress in order to meet prescribed deadlines.

Research, analytical and evaluation skills to assess complex issues/events impacting the OPP and the Ministry and identify potential risk in order to develop communication strategies and briefing materials.

Ability to recognize, understand, anticipate, assess, evaluate and resolve communication issues and to think conceptually and with long-term perspective how current communication strategies and tactics might be affected by future developments.
