As a member of the Employee and Labour Relations team, the Labour Relations Advisor will hold key accountabilities in delivering the Labour Relations Strategy in setting the labour relations landscape of the WSIB. You will provide direction and guidance to management and Human Resources (HR) on the administration, interpretation and application of Collective Agreement(s), labour legislation and related HR policies. You will facilitate educational workshops on labour relations management regarding the interpretation and application of the collective agreement and related employment legislation, as well as the best practices in managing in a unionized environment. You will also conduct research, investigation and analysis to provide support and guidance on the effective management and resolution of grievances, collective agreement interpretation and in the collective bargaining process. You will act as Management Chair on Union-Management standing commitees on a variety of issues and initiatives.

About the job

Support the Director, Labour Relations on the development and maintenance of the corporate labour relations strategy and in contract negotiation between the employer and bargaining agent(s).
Facilitate resolution of labour disputes that arise from various employment issues by:

• Providing feedback/advice to HR on the interpretation and application of the collective agreement(s), labour relations policies and practices and dealing with any escalations that arise.
• Handling grievances. Make recommendations for settlement of disputes. Supporting clients on the interpretation and implementation of GSB awards/decisions.

Administer and apply the collective agreement and labour relations policy by providing ongoing interpretation and advice to management formally and/or informally and to other areas of HR.
Provide Labour Relations Expertise in the creation and development of new or revised corporate policies.

Deliver workshops/conduct roadshows via classroom, one on one and on the job on the Collective Agreement application/interpretation, alternate dispute resolution and other labour relations issues
Support organizational change initiatives from a Labour Relations perspective, providing subject matter expertise, and ensuring execution of appropriate HR processes.

What you bring to the team


Mandatory requirements

• University degree in Human Resources, Social Sciences or related education, Masters in Human Resources and Industrial Relations preferred.
• 3 to 5 years specialized labour relations experience, or 6 plus years in Human Resources with strong focus on labour relations
• Experience in preparing, consulting and advising in mediation and arbitration cases.
• Experience in interpretation, application and administration of collective agreements.
• Experience in collective bargaining environment is an asset
