Reporting to the President & CEO, the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) & Vice President, works collaboratively with other members of the leadership team, and particularly the President & CEO, to oversee administrative operations across LAO. This is a broad and complex role encompassing all aspects of LAO's non-legal operations. The CAO/VP provides executive leadership and strategic direction to all administration functions including financial planning and management, purchasing, payments to lawyers, information technology, human resources, facilities management and project & contract management. This multidisciplinary portfolio supports internal departments, and external service providers and is responsible to provide management and financial reports to the Ministry of the Attorney General to ensure compliance with government directives and to oversee the development of LAO's financial statements of behalf of the corporation and to oversee the supporting audits performed on behalf of the Office of the Auditor General of Ontario, Strategic and Corporate Leadership
- As a member of LAO's Executive Management team, sets vision, direction, goals and priorities for the corporation, and provides input into the development of corporate policy and practices.
- Models LAO values, client service philosophy and good management practices.
- Provides strategic guidance and advice to the President and CEO and the LAO Board on all fiscal and administrative matters, and provides strategic input into the development of Legal Aid policies and business plans. Provides strategic advice on corporate issues related to IT, HR, Finance, Facilities, or other administrative services.
- Leads corporate projects as delegated by President/CEO and provides leadership/guidance on corporate change and business improvement initiatives.
- Presents regularly to the LAO the Board and the Audit and Finance Committee of the Board on all financial, administrative matters. Program Leadership
- Leads the fiscal planning and budgeting process for LAO, including multi-year forecasting, business analysis, in-year reporting and expenditure management.
- Oversees through the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the provision of financial services, ensuring proper controls are in place and accounts are reconciled in accordance with standard operating procedures.
- Leads the development and implementation of financial controls in the organization to enhance accountability to provincial government.
- Oversees, through the Director, Human Resources, the provision of strategic human resources and organizational development services, including recruitment, job evaluation, organizational design, performance management, collective bargaining, labour relations and training and development functions.
- Oversees, through the Chief Information Officer (CIO), the provision of strategic information technology services, including computer and telephony hardware and software acquisition, training and security.
- Oversees the provision of administrative services on behalf of the organization, including mail room/print shop, records management, facilities and contract management.
- Oversees the capital plan and budget for the organization, including management of the lease portfolio.
- Leads the development of corporate policies, programs and procedures to facilitate program delivery and support management decision-making. Ensures the development and delivery of training, tools and other supports for line managers on corporate policies and procedures

- Advanced degree such as an MBA or related degree with a recognized professional designation is an asset
