What can I expect to do in this role?

Your work will include:

• providing professional advice and analytical support in the preparation of resource management plans and natural heritage system design projects as well as in the resolution of resource management and allocation issues
• using quantitative resource analysis techniques for landscape and ecosystem planning assessments, resource supply assessments and socio-economic impact assessment
• assembling and synthesizing data, running models and analyzing and interpreting results
• managing information consistent with provincial standards in the development of strategic plans
• interacting with other resource professionals and members of the public engaged on resource planning teams

How do I qualify?

Mandatory requirement:

• You possess a valid Registered Professional Forester (RPF) designation from the Ontario Professional Foresters Association.

Technical knowledge:

• You are knowledgeable of and are proficient using computer-based analytical, data-management, mapping and modelling techniques including spatial analyses and data modeling.
• You possess experience and the ability to design, develop and test new analytical and planning tools and applications (e.g. habitat, landscape diversity protection, resource management).

Knowledge and experience:

• You have demonstrated knowledge of Ontario's forest management planning system and the principles associated with ecosystem-based approaches to resource management.
• You possess relevant experience in the theory, methods and practices of geographic information systems, databases and analytical models including job related experience in using forest management models.
• You are knowledgeable of and have the ability to apply and interpret relevant legislation, policies and procedures.

Communication and interpersonal skills:

• You possess proven oral communication skills to provide adequate information, advice and recommendations to staff, stakeholders and project teams.
• You have well developed written communication skills to create reports, presentations, draft correspondence and review information.
• You have interpersonal skills to conduct presentations and convey technical information to non-technical staff in a cohesive manner.
• You are able to deal with stakeholders and staff with tact, diplomacy and in a professional manner.
• You demonstrate good judgment to work cooperatively within a team environment and to work effectively with different audiences.

Analytical and research skills:

• You have analytical and problem-solving skills in order to analyze and interpret results, prepare data summaries and provide clear descriptions of results for use in technical reports and presentations.
• You possess interpretive and effective research skills to perform and review statistical analysis information of varying complexity to support regional resource management and land use planning models.
• You have the ability to prioritize and organize your work in a fast paced and dynamic environment.
