Are you looking for an opportunity to apply your technical and engineering expertise, negotiation skills and your knowledge of contracts and highway construction?
If so, consider this position with the Ministry of Transportation, Provincial Highways Management Division.

About the job

You will:
• Liaise with contractors, property owners and the general public to address issues and complaints
• Assist with the monitoring and performance assessment of contractors and consultants
• Review extra work, contract drawings, documents and claims
• Complete seasonal work assignments within the various regional and provincial offices
• Provide technical advice and training to junior staff

What you bring to the team


Mandatory requirements

• You have a valid class 'G' driver's licence

Technical and Legislative Knowledge

• You have knowledge and experience in construction and/or maintenance practices including inspection and road patrolling and related duties
• You have knowledge and experience of highway maintenance and/or construction standards and specifications
• You have knowledge of related policies, acts and regulations, safety, and environmental protection requirements (e.g. HTA, Construction Lien Act, Aggregate Resources Act, OH&S Act, Environmental Assessment Act, Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act, WHMIS etc.)

Analytical and Organizational Skills

• You have communication and interpersonal skills
• You have analytical, negotiation and problem solving skills
• You have mathematical skills to assist with the assessment of contract related issues
• You have organizational and planning skills to effectively carry out assigned inspection and monitoring duties
• You have the ability to interpret contract drawings and documents
• You have the ability to monitor contractor's operations, assess contractors and consultants work for compliance
• You have computer skills and knowledge of computer software
