Do you have experience in interpreting legislation, knowledge of accounting principles, payroll processes and strong mathematical, research and analytical skills? If so, consider this opportunity where you will provide comprehensive interpretation, information and compliance services to taxpayers for multiple statutes including Employer Health Tax (EHT) and Retail Sales Tax (RST).

What can I expect to do in this role?

You will:

• manage and perform financial, reporting and assessment activities on client accounts
• perform verification and reconciliation activities to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial and non-financial information
• update financial information by processing and reconciling returns and adjustments based on discrepancies
• provide timely responses to taxpayer inquiries and provide interpretation, information and compliance services regarding the EHT and RST Acts, including explaining taxpayer rights and responsibilities and legislated obligations
• identify, investigate and resolve compliance issues, assess liabilities and process refunds, while maintaining client account integrity

How do I qualify?

Technical Knowledge:

• You demonstrate knowledge of basic accounting principles, practices and payroll processes to review, analyze, verify and evaluate financial and non-financial taxpayer information
• You have mathematical skills to calculate penalty and interest, to prepare reconciliations and validate liabilities
• You have ability to interpret and apply relevant legislation, procedures and policies to resolve compliance issues and maintain taxpayer account integrity

Research, Analytical and Judgement Skills:

• You have research and analytical skills to validate requirements, determine eligibility for exemptions and refund entitlements, and identify, investigate and resolve financial discrepancies
• You exercise judgement to investigate, make recommendations and apply legislation, procedures and policies to enhance compliance

Communication, Organizational and Computer Skills:

• You have strong interpersonal and oral and written communication skills to deal tactfully and diplomatically with taxpayers, to work cohesively within a strong team focused environment and to share complex information in a clear and concise manner
• You have organizational skills to prioritize workload demands to comply with deadlines and service standards
• You have ability to use a computer database system for data retrieval, analysis and input, and are proficient in using various computer software programs (e.g. MS Word and, Excel)
